ASUS RT-AC88U (Stock Firmware vs Merlin Firmware)

Hey Guys,

Currently using stock firmware 3.0.0.4.382_18991, I would like to use my Private Internet Access account (Open VPN with ovpn file) for my SmartTV, Fire TV Stick and guest network only not for all clients connected to my Asus router, but I don't see an option under VPN profile to select which IP's can be routed through vpn and which can go directly, is this something available under Merlin Firmware?

Also is it possible to simultaneously use multiple VPN profiles for different clients, for example for my SmartTV and FireTV I want to use European PIA VPN server and for guest network I want to use and US based PIA VPN server, is it possible using Merlin firmware?

Also if I upgraded to Merlin will I still have the option of using AI Protection? If not is there something similar under Merlin Firmware?

ai protection is in merlin, my suggestion is back up your config, flash merlin factory reset, then manually reconfigure to see if you like it.
I'm sorry but I'm not familiar with vpn support one of the other members might be able to help, if you want screen shots of merlin firmware running on an 88u pm me.

Thanks Vexira, I just upgraded to Merlin Firmware from latest ASUS firmware, and I was surprised that all my configurations were intact.

I got my answer, i can source route certain devices on my home network through VPN, which is exactly what i wanted, thanks.

AI protection is there as well.

Your welcome I tend to reset between firmware changes like that to prevent issues.

Any chance you can share how you did the routing please? I am looking for something similar and really just my AppleTV so that Netflix, Amazon, etc traffic is routed locally bypassing the tunnel and everything else via the VPN.
