I might try that.

Can I configure the guest SSID so that it is on the same subnet as the main SSID and without any isolation? (I am trying to cater to both modern and legacy devices that might want to talk to each other. I am aware of the security implications.)
Yes, that is how I have mine configured until my kids leave after Christmas. I will then tinker with an isolated subnet and see how the “smart” devices behave.

There is no much point of WPA2/WPA3 mixed anyway. Mixed Wi-Fi 4/5/6/7 network is a total mess.

Then use the main 2.4GHz network/SSID for your older clients. Why additional Guest Network?
As I said in my original post, I want one SSID that is 2.4GHz only (for older clients) and another SSID that is 2.4GHz + 5GHz + 6GHz with Smart Connect.

The current Web interface does not allow me to do this. Unless I create a guest network, apparently.

In this case - obviously. You can't have more than one main 2.4GHz networks on any Asus router.

There`s not really much of a distinction between "main" and "guest" networks with 3006.102.37xxx. You create as many networks as you want, each with the security settings and the bands that you want.

That's why the section was renamed to simply "Networks" instead of "Guest Networks".

That`s basically the idea behind the default IoT network. It's a 2.4 GHz network that has most compatibility-related settings set to the most compatible one.

Forgot about the new way. This is the correct logic. Did RT-BE92U get to this point? I see the last firmware is the security updates release.

Asus started adding it with firmware 36xxx, it will be there in 37xxx.

I think Asus will soon release a upgrade firmware that is more stable. The current and the started firmware were horrible buggy and my router had dead two times during settings amement on web, need WPS reset. VPN IPSec not working, wifi channels dropped after running a period of time...etc.

Now I am running the beta firmware 9.0.0.6_102_37421 and was much more stable. Hope Asus will release a final firmware very soon.

As I asked in my original post, why is this obvious?

Asus expended engineering effort to add this restriction, for no technical reason, just to waste users' time?

Anyway I got my solution. Thanks to everyone else for the helpful replies.

Because this is how Asuswrt was structured. The latest changes in 3006 firmware allow it. If you see Guest Network Pro in the UI - this is the old way and it has one Main network plus additional Guest Networks. If you see Network only - this is the new way and it allows multiple networks not necessarily labelled as Guest.

I had enabled the MLO features and the beta firmware seems no major issue so far.

MLO - on
AIMesh - on (with TUF Gaming AX300 as node)
2.4, 5, 6 Ghz - on
LOT - on
VPN IPSec issue fixed

I installed the beta firmware over one week and only need to reboot once.

I also have the same router with the same issues. Where did you get the beta firmware from?
I’ve checked through the router for beta firmware and nothing shows up.

I wonder what the beta version is because there is nothing in the router or any information where the beta version is because I also have that router so I also want to test if it is there?

I got the beta from my friend after he had too many complaints and Asus sent to him. Because it's a non released firmware so that I cannot share to the public. I think Asus will release a formal firmware very soon.

I think the purpose of beta firmwares is to get them to folks with the affected routers to test them in the wild in real world situations and report the findings back. Does zero good having a couple of people using them. I seriously doubt ASUS cares one bit where they go, the more people try it out the better result upon release. I checked with them myself and if they send me the beta then for sure if will be posted here for everyone to use and get this fixed.

Asus once asked NOT to have these beta firmware redistributed.

So be it. It’s getting returned today, I’m done being a beta tester for ASUS. It’s happened the last three ASUS purchases and it takes months to get a viable working router from all the half baked firmware updates they throw out.
