For the curious ones in Japan:

ASUS RT-N66U Firmware version 3.0.0.4.376.3715
- Fixed CSRF issue.
- For JP only

Only found here:
https://www.asus.com/Networking/RTN66U/HelpDesk_Download/
The "old" download link seems to be phased out, 0 files in all selections.

CSRF = Cross-Site Request Forgery.
Wondering why that is fixed as region specific only.

[EDIT]
The Download site seems to be updated now and includes the most recent firmware:

If I'm in Canada will updating to this break something?
I suggest to follow Asus recommendation and use firmware 3.0.0.4.376.3657 which is for all regions.
The Japaneese version may let you end with an other set of wireless channels then allowed in Canada.

.... or with a Japanese GUI :)

GUI

That is the big question, can anyone confirm whether or not this version affords the user a choice of languages for the user interface...

Why are people outside Japan so stubborn to try out a firmware version which is quite clearly marked as for Japan only?
Do they suffer the the single issue that is fixed?
Plain impatient to wait for the "all region" version?
Hey guys, if you are so curious: have the guts and install this Japanese version firmware on your non Japanese router and see what happens. Let us know.

Nothing happens, I loaded it on a Canadian version, english default.
Didn't reset the settings, maybe it defaults to Japanese but I doubt it.

I think channel wise Japan has more than Canada so wouldn't matter,
although I only see up to 11 so as best as I can tell all f/w are universal.

Could you check exact WLAN driver version, I have troubles with

6.30 RC163.2002
wl0: Oct 17 2014 12:47:21 version 6.30.163.2002 (r382208)

which is at 3.0.0.4.376.3657 and .3602. Earlier version

6.30 RC163.2002
wl0: Jun 16 2014 19:31:20 version 6.30.163.2002 (r382208)

works fine. Version is same, only compilation date and time differs.

How can I check that?

What does this response really contribute to the discussion?

How can I check that?

Enable telnet in your routers web interface (Administration -> System -> Enable Telnet), use Putty or some other telnet client to telnet to your router IP (192.168.1.1) port 22 (In Putty just click telnet connection type, not default of ssh) Login using your Router Web Site Login Name and Password and make command "wl ver" without ""

Question:
Why would I even remotely think of touching what is marked as "Japan-Only"
I'd be desperate?
