Glad to see this product is still being supported. Curious as to how this goes. I will try this weekend, but as I work from home I don't want to tempt fate until I have some time off.

It is a powerful and popular AX router. They can't stop releasing firmwares yet.

My old N55U_D1 still has updates from time to time, after almost a decade. I imagine routers have any way of "pinging home" (and auto firmware check in latest versions, for example) so ASUS know how many are still on use, to help decide the actual lifetime. XT8 was very popular and still sold.

I do not plan to change it. I have no problems at all with it.

FYI: I installed the firmware version on my three XT8 V.1 yesterday and so far I haven't noticed any negative points or problems with it. However, the issue of WLAN transmission speed to WLAN clients, or between the XT8 clients, which has always been mentioned as bad or worse with some other firmware versions, is not that important to me.
I also haven't noticed any messages in the system log that I should be concerned about or worried about. :)

Upgraded no issues here and I think I may have slightly better speeds everywhere. Ram sits around 68% i forgot to check before upgrade but sure this used to sit in the 70s or even 80s.

4 units wireless backhaul.

Firmware installed on two XT8 nodes. So far no problems other than a cosmetic issues: Some of the longer client names being showed "scrambled" in the web interface independent of which browser I use. Column width of Client name is too small while the column width for IP address seems to be oversized. No means to adjust the widths.

That problem started in the prior firmware. Really disappointed that they didn't fix that, seems like an easy fix and considering months between releases it could be a bug for a year or longer.

Running for 3 weeks now without major problems, but I did noticed an old problem resurfaces. The client list does not get refreshed. I have several devices connected (and active) not showing up on the client list while inactive devices (kids phones while they are not at home) are still on the list. Running in AP mode I had this problem with an older FW version, but now it returned.

I do not notice that problem 🤔

Maybe you are not running in AP mode ? Could be a problem in the collaboration between my IP fiber modem/router being the DHCP server and my XT8 set-up as AP. But with previous FW refresh on the XT8 worked correctly and in the meanwhile I did not receive any new FW on my fiber modem.

My XT8 works as a standalone router connected to the fiber ONT. No mesh.

Check if in the Network Map -> View List all the connected clients are included.

XT8 AP Mode with 3 Clients.

At first I also thought that this old problem had returned because some devices had appeared in my client list that hadn't been present in the LAN for days,

Example:

Asus_XT8_Client_List.png

The device was last connected to the LAN on October 23th.

FB_IP177.png

but when I then log out of the XT8 WebGUI, log back in and then call up the client list again, all of these devices have disappeared from the list and the display is correct again.

The device with the IP .177 no longer appears and all other devices that are no longer connected to the LAN no longer appear in the client list. This means that for me and here it seems to be enough if I
1. Open the XT8 WebGUI and display the client list.
2. Log out of the XT8 WebGUI.
3. Open the XT8 WebGUI again and display the client list.
--> Clients that are no longer present in the LAN are no longer in the client list.

I can't say whether this always works, but it certainly worked today. :)

Otherwise, the firmware version has been running very stable for me now for about 4 weeks.

Is it normal for only the primary router to be upgraded, leaving secondary nodes on the previous release?

I've had my XT8 for about 3 years, updating the firmware many times over that period.

I have 4 nodes: 1 primary router, running in AP mode, and 3 secondary nodes.

Every time I have updated the firmware, using the primary router web UI, it has always updated all four nodes.

But the last time, only the primary router upgraded.

I was on 3.0.0.4.388_24609-gca2277b (Jan 2024) on all four nodes. The web UI on the primary showed an upgrade was available for the primary itself, to 3.0.0.4.388_24668-gb5d7304 (Sept 2024). The UI claimed that the three secondary nodes were on the latest available (24609).

I upgraded the firmware, and that upgraded the primary only, to 24668, leaving the three secondary nodes on 24609.

Now it's saying there is an update to 3.0.0.4.388_24684-g1e332b0 (Nov), but still only for the primary router, still saying that the secondary nodes are on the latest available, 24609.

[The Android app shows the same issue: secondary nodes on the latest firmware, upgrade available only for the primary router]

I could imagine that a release that only contained changes applicable to the primary router might not auto-apply to the secondaries, as they wouldn't benefit from it. But I'd have thought that would have been mentioned somewhere, but it doesn't seem to have been, for either 24668, or 24684.

I could try to update the secondary nodes manually, via the downloaded firmware file mentioned here, but should that be needed?

Has anyone else upgraded from 24609 (or earlier) to 24668, and did their secondary nodes update automatically?

thanks very much indeed.

I manually updated my three secondary nodes to 24668.

The the auto-update offered 24684 for all four nodes, which installed fine automatically.
