Updated last night from 384 latest release to 386.1 beta 2, dirty update. The router web interface (RT-AC86U) became unresponsive for more then 3 hours. Not sure how long, only in the morning it was accessible again. This was mentioned in the changelog but as it took longer then expected so I got a bit worried. This morning all worked fine. As from the start the traffic trough the router was flowing fine, also trough the 2 nodes (RT-AC68U on stock 386 firmware, wired backhaul).

Only one hickhup; The Addon spdMerlin requires a swapfile which I created on a usb stick (1GB stick, 500 mb swap), this swap file was not mounted anymore. So formatted the drive and tried to re-create the swap but now 1GB is the requirement which doesn't fit on a 1.000 mb stick. After several restarts due fiddling around with the swapfile I now have no addons menu anymore (conmon, scMerlin were still working untouched since update). AMTM is still working from SSH. Will have a further look tonight.

No issues noted in the log file, looking good!

On Beta2, factory reset.
Log is filling up with this:

Dec 15 10:08:12 kernel: protocol 0800 is buggy, dev eth6
Dec 15 10:08:12 kernel: protocol 0800 is buggy, dev eth7
Dec 15 10:08:16 kernel: protocol 0800 is buggy, dev eth7

Dec 15 10:08:16 kernel: protocol 0800 is buggy, dev eth7
Dec 15 10:08:16 kernel: protocol 0800 is buggy, dev eth7

Edit: Using RT-AX88U, merlin 386.1 beta 2

Known issue. Shift any guest network/s you may have into the second column on the guest network page, (& delete the first.)

Edit: Using RT-AX88U, merlin 386.1 beta 2
Known issue with Asus hardware acceleration. Don't think it actually does anything harmful

do you have a AiMesh setup? i cannot upgrade my AX3000 (using AX58U firmware) without a factory reset.... since Alpha 3

No Aimesh here. Also have never had any issues upgrading or downgrading firmwares on my AX58U. I also preform a hard factory reset after the flash then reconfigure manually.

Known issue. Shift any guest network/s you may have into the second column on the guest network page, (& delete the first.)
Thank you!
Shifted both 2,4ghz and 5ghz guest networks to second column, and it stopped the erreoneous logging.

But now, the log is filling up with this:
Dec 15 13:05:14 kernel: eth3 (Ext switch port: 2) (Logical Port: 10) (phyId: a) Link DOWN.
Dec 15 13:05:14 kernel: br0: port 3(eth3) entered disabled state
Dec 15 13:05:17 kernel: eth3 (Ext switch port: 2) (Logical Port: 10) (phyId: a) Link UP at 1000 mbps full duplex
Dec 15 13:05:17 kernel: br0: port 3(eth3) entered listening state
Dec 15 13:05:17 kernel: br0: port 3(eth3) entered listening state
Dec 15 13:05:19 kernel: br0: port 3(eth3) entered learning state
Dec 15 13:05:21 kernel: br0: topology change detected, propagating
Dec 15 13:05:21 kernel: br0: port 3(eth3) entered forwarding state
Dec 15 13:05:21 kernel: eth3 (Ext switch port: 2) (Logical Port: 10) (phyId: a) Link DOWN.
Dec 15 13:05:21 kernel: br0: port 3(eth3) entered disabled state

Assume this might also be known/due to hardware accel(?)
(AX88U 386.1 Beta 2)

Would it be wrong to wish for brand new Merlin FW for Christmas??? :)
I know it's one of the things on my list :)
Would be cool if Merlin added a snowflake animation script. DD-WRT had this (nvram set snow=on).
Script: https://svn.dd-wrt.com/changeset/5365

Same here on AC86U.

It doesn’t look like anything is configured in LAN / DHCP Server / DNS 1 & 2.

I have an AX3000 in my mesh network and it updated without any issues. Mine is connected over wireless to an AX88U on a 5GHz uplink.

The last 384 release doesn't mean anything. So, when was the last time the router was fully reset? From which firmware to the latest Beta did you flash it from? What router are you talking about?
RT-AC86U, previously 384.19.0.
Haven't done a complete reset since 384.4.

Would be cool if Merlin added a snowflake animation script.

This would provide a boost in speed and security, and decrease attack surface. For an added bonus, it would free up valuable programming time, so RMerlin can focus on the major 386 upgrade.

Hopefully, the next release will also flash the LED lights in sync with the song Jingle Bells.

@distilled great idea, keep them coming, I see you're already getting into the holiday spirit.

smh NO. Merlin's a wizard, not a snowman
If a wizard can't make it snow then he doesn't have any power.
On the other hand, a snowman doesn't make snow, so this is a foolish comparison.
Also, this would be something optional you need to turn on, it wouldn't affect a grinch.

Just may be time for that hard factory reset. You can take a backup of the settings and /jffs but I would not restore them after the reset. As a fellow AC86U user, a reset will be worth it. And, format the /jffs after a minimal config.

Same here on AX3000, router restarts on upgrade and nothing happens.
No AiMesh, basic config with AiProtection and Diversion.

Would formatting /jffs be necessary if I don't do anything with scripts and/ or I'm flashing a new router. Just pulled it out of the box?

I have runned Beta2 build 1 days 0 hour(s) 40 minute(s) 32 seconds and working just fine on RT-AX86U router.
Vpn-clients seems to run fine, only tested or RT-AX86U.
VPN-speed with AES-256-GCM is 180-210 Mbps SHA1 and no compression.

Thanks for new build(s)

Be careful what you ask for...
