Related question: If my node is already connected before I flash my router with Merlin, will I have to re-connect it via ethernet? Does flashing to Merlin reset the mesh setups? Or will the fact that it was connected before the flash mean it will stay connected after I've switched the router over to Merlin?Wireless node discovery doesn't work in Asuswrt-Merlin. You have to use Ethernet connection for the initial setup.

I’ve a question : after firmware upgrade, say you do factory reset. Can you still restore config from backup or that would beat the purpose of factory resetting it in first place? You should do the factory reset after flashing the firmware. Doing the reset first probably doesn't hurt anything, but after is what gets you the benefit.
Sorry to hear of your troubles. Been running GNUton's Merlin port on both XT8 here without any problems. 66 days plus 22 hours uptime just now.
