Is there any chance that this feature can be ported from the 3200 series routers to older routers like the 68/66 routers? It's just software based firmware changes and not hardware functionality that I know of. Also features like drop the 2.4 when 5.8 ghz band goes above a specific threshold again?

It's more than that, it needs a whole SDK upgrade.
 
Well what about Asus's implementation of band steering? Thing is I like the Asus firmware better than DDWRT. I found DD unstable, last time I was using on this router about a year ago. Also hated my nest ....

What about it? The band steering daemon is from Broadcom's SDK, it's not developped by Asus.
