My Entware installation appears to be borked. When I try to execute any command, I see a screenful of garbage characters, followed by "Filename too long". This problem also prevents updates via amtm or otherwise.

What is the best sequence for stopping any running services that may depend on Entware, wiping the installation, re-installing and re-enabling services?
Is there an alternative to 'lsof' available, to show me which processes are using the SD card?

My first approach would be to log into the GUI and disable "JFFS custom scripts and configs" and reboot the router. Then SSH into the router and delete the entware directory from the USB drive. Might as well fsck the drive while you're there.
