i am interested in your opinion, because I have been plagued by 5G issue. have you tried to make regular computer into sleep, if there will be connectivity issue? about 87u's 5G issue, i even have been suspected to be hardware flaw, rather than firmware issue. but I saw something in this forum seem to can overthrow my doubt, so confused......
at present, it seems that most of the complaints about the 5G issue is from apple device users. i was thinking, maybe this problem can not be solved by asus/quantenna, maybe they need apple's help, but this seems ridiculous.

So far I have two devices at home which disconnect from the 5GHz sometimes: My Asus Nexus Player set top disk (however, it is known to be very unreliable regarding wifi, not just with this router) and a Sony Xperia M Android phone. Oh, and I had a visitor for a couple of days lately who came here with a Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 - that one also seemed to be effected by this problem.

Otherwise, when it comes to mobile devices, I have a Nexus 7 2013 and a Nexus 9 and none of them have any issues (they used to have though, when I was still experimenting with 5GHz beamforming, but not anymore)

Anyone on Singnet FTTH here, when try to set pre-sets inside main page, it doesn't allow you to do so, but instead you got to go inside IPTV tab to set the pre-sets

Really thanks for sharing your experience, now back to my test for this firmware. After running 15 hours, the 5G connectivity becomes very unstable, even i can not access the router's web gui via my phone, i tried to turn on/off my iphone6p wifi switch, but no help. It seems that i should temporarily use my R8000, both 2.4G and 5G are very stable, and continue to wait for 87u new firmware.

yes, i have a friend use R7500, same 5G issue, R7500 also use Quantenna chip(QSR1000) for 5G module.

it's interesting to note that in those cases discussed above the issues start to appear after operating the router for a while. 15 hours is bad timing IMO as then a nightly scheduled reboot won't fix this and you'd need to reboot the router roughly every 12 hours.

None of the issues I've ever experienced with mine have been dependent on the uptime of the router. But in order to prevent any of those issues potentially surfacing at one point, I'm automatically rebooting it every 24hrs very early in the morning. I'm experiencing no problems after 15 hours either though, which would be around 8 in the evening around the time I utilize the router the most. That's a nasty issue to troubleshoot for u guys.

Btw, my RT-ac87u, works fine, stable, consistent and with all my Apple products and I'm using an old FW.

It's an old beta and not even listed on the Asus d/l area. 5ghz band is stable with my iPhone 5S, iPad Air 2, Apple TV and my wifi thermostat of all things. I never re-boot my 87u, but I turn it off at night. I get 120 - 140mbps downstairs in my two story house with my iPad and 327 down with my desktop upstairs where the router is. My wireless speeds with the desktop and wired are the same at 327 on a 250ghz service.

The router is located on the 2nd floor. I use an Intel ac7260 with the latest drivers. I get fine signal in my basement on all bands. 2.4ghz works best in my shed rather than 5.

I try new FW and find that the updates don't give me the speed, consistency or range. Always go back to 5587.

Greate router and faster than my RT- N66u.

Don't run beta versions if it's such a major problem for you. The drain only appears in beta releases, and as betas those are bound to have all type of issues.

I think the definition of Beta is perhaps getting lost by a lot of people, it is a public test and it'll fix stuff and break stuff.

Personally it has made no real difference to me but then I didn't have any real wireless issues other than ones probably related to a large amount of wireless signals (22+) I can detect while in my house.

The slowdowns on 5Ghz is really what affects me the most. No improvement on this either?

My guess is we're all just a little bit skeptical that this is actually going to be the one that makes this router usable. I'm anxious to get a working stable firmware for this router so I tried out this update and have been running it on my AC87U since it was posted. Trying not to jinx this thing, but so far it's running fantastic. My 5GHZ is fast, completely stable, and has great range. No drops or slowdowns since the update.

I can usually tell if the network is dropping connections by connecting my work computer to my company VPN. In the past my VPN was constantly re-connectiong, and eventually I wasn't able to connect to the 5GHZ network at all. And the 2.4 slowed down considerably over time. The only thing that fixed the issues was a reboot, then I'd go through the process all over again.

Fingers crossed, but so far extremely happy with this revision. In the end, time will tell.

I would like to answer you but in reality the amount of devices in the house that actually use the 5Ghz band are Nexus 5, iPhone 5s, Panasonic CX700 TV, Samsung Note 3, Dell Laptop a few others like a Roku 3, LG TV and Kindle fire that support 5Ghz don't support DFS so they are on 2.4Ghz with various other devices. I've not really pushed any of the devices to notice any improvements in the 5Ghz band, I know the iPhone used to be rather fickle a while ago but since it is my dads business phone I've never really been that concerned since it'll just drop back on to a mobile network.

I've also always considered the performance of any wireless signal to worsen/improve due to the local noise and interference levels rather than the driver/hardware of the router.
