Reason hes not publishing source is perfectly valid (and being a private build) .. even though it does sort of kick in the pants the spirit of GPL.. Its called liability.. you may not like it, or not be comfortable but he still could hold liable if he "gives keys to the kingdom"... Its your choice to install or not install.. In theroy I could do this semi-legally under hamradio power regulations..and we could go that tack of limiting it to amateur radio operators... but then interference would also come into play and layfolks could not use my connection

Actually - there is no legitimate reason why HGG cannot respond promptly to a GPL pull request - so please, to the hive mind - stop trying to rationalize it.

I've heard a lot of "reasons" why, but seriously, they don't hold water... if he doesn't provide what I'm asking for - it a GPL violation - and more importantly - theft of other peoples' work - including some here...

I asked for a source code drop - it's within my rights to do so - doesn't need to be pretty, doesn't need to be cleaned up and ready to build -

I'll be easy - put the directory into a tarball, and provide a link directly to me to download for review.

As others have explained 99.999% of the source codes are other people's work, including Merlin's (credited and usually in context of attempts to 'legitimise' HGG fork IMO) and John's (not credited).

Asus uses this set_wltxpower function to override tx pwr related CFE values to be within limit. People can remove calls to this function to keep their custom values or re-write/adapt this function to appear a bit more 'fancy'..

check_wl_country function for making sure region settings in CFE/NVRAM not overriden. So people can remove this call to retain their custom values about country...?

Seems to me Asus learned from their earlier mistake and not disposing the function content in the wild. Remove calls to this function and a simple experiment can confirm its purpose..

With all due respect, I find that sentiment to be utterly nonsensical. You say he's offering a "private build"? I don't think that is consistent with the history of what he's done: First, he made his FW available the general public via links that were formerly available here at SNB; then, when asked repeatedly to share his code, and after making excuse after excuse about why he was "too busy" to do so, he resorted to his latest tactic at distribution, having those who PM him provided with a link to a MediaFire directory from which he distributes this firmware. It's not "private" though, and the genie is out of the bottle on that sort of an argument. He has already exposed himself to liability. Jolt, with all due respect, your argument makes no sense and does not comport with the reality of what's occurred already.

What hggomes has done - he's appropriated from others, inserted some his own code, and then suggests - "trust me" - it's unethical and dishonest - this kind of behavior puts the whole 3rd party firmware development community at risk for future development opportunities...

It puts the users at risk as well - what's done there is to enable channels that are plainly not allowed in certain regulatory domains - in some, they might be now, but when the devices were certified by an independent 3rd party lab, they were not - and Asus stated as such...

Which goes all the way back to Asus - it's their GPL distro - and I appreciate and applaud their efforts to the community - but pirates are what they are...

I upgraded today too, I thought it was obsproxy, but I guess not. I think XOR obfuscation refers to this, and this. I think its also called the XOR patch or scramble.
I may be in the deep end of the pool trying to set it up myself. lol
Maybe I will spend the day tomorrow following this great super long post on a vps.

Apologies in advance, but I'm new here. Six hours ago I upgraded my RT-AC68U to 380-57-hgg-final and my CPU seems to be cooking. I'm not doing much other than very light internet use, but the CPU temp reading is consistently 110 C and the CPU core utilisation is bouncing all over the place.

Should I be concerned?

I've been using Merlin's 380.57 for a few weeks, however 2.4Ghz has been too unstable. From memory CPU temperatures used to be around 98 C which still seems hot, but then it is summer here in Australia and the house doesn't have any cooling. Today's a mild 32 C which is less than the last few weeks.

So it is safe to have the CPU temp sitting on 110 C, and is it normal for the CPU activity across the two cores to be so erratic when I'm not placing any load on the router?

My cpu is @ 85C in a hot room on a hot day (35C), htop says I use about 2% of cpu.

Did you factory reset after installing the firmware? Enter in settings manually after reboot.
If your using a ac68u did you try the old driver?

I think 110C is high
