Your syslog shows that you hit the Apply button on the Administration>System page, not the Save button on the QOS page. If you didn't do that, the only thing I can guess is that you have a corrupted code load.
What code was on immediately prior to loading V14E1? Did you do a factory reset after the load?

At this point, I'd recommend reflashing and doing a factory reset before doing any more debug.

Last action was a save on QOS page only
14E1 - save settings - Merlin 378.55 - factory reset - 14E1 - factory reset - restore settings

I will try a reflash and manual settings
 
The one thing I'd like to add as far as WiFi reach and strength goes is that, I replaced the antennae from my 68U with the WRT Linksys antennae and the signal quality and strength increased dramatically http://www.linksys.com/us/p/P-WRT004ANT/
I run @john9527 14E1 fork.

The router is in my office on the first floor, which is the furthest room in the house on the NE corner of it. I have a Linksys RE6500 extender on the opposing end of the house in the living room. It used to get full strength signal from the router most of the time, but the quality of the signal was maybe two bars. After I installed the WRT Linksys antennae, I get full bars signal strength and quality. These antennae are not for the faint of heart, they are massive....:):):):cool: They have worked great. My Dark Knight now has bigger swords to fight with... :) LOL!

The RE6500 came with very small antennae, even Linksys has changed them to high-gain dipole ones on their newer version of the extender, the RE6500HG. I took the stock antennae that I removed from the Asus 68U and installed them on the RE6500 and wow what a difference that made to the Extender's signal. Full bars everywhere now in the house, even outside in the yard. The Linksys WRT antennae are expensive. They had send me an e-mail that they were on sale, I got the four pack for $60..., not too bad for the gains in signal I made.:cool:

massive things! Good to know there's improvement to be had when you need it just by swapping the antennae
 
WOW....good to see them in perspective. I've played with aftermarket antennas but never had any luck (but then again they weren't in that price range :) )

@john9527 LOL, yes they are massive, Linksys claims peak gain up to 4dBi (2.4GHz) and up to 7dBi (5GHz) . I don't have equipment to measure dBi, I don't think, but looking at the Extenders Web interface, the one thing I noticed is that the quality of signal now is full bars and it is steady that way. It wasn't like that before. The strength was most of the time full bars, but quality was erratic. Now both are steadily full bars. I have the new Apple TV one room over from the extender, about 30' from it and it shows full bar signal on it's Network menu as well. The new Apple TV has AC wireless protocol, streaming is flawless.

Could you run an iperf sppeedtest to see what sort of improvement you get in actual throughput? Sometimes signal-strength will increase but actual measured performance will decrease or be unchanged.
 
I'm not sure if my wife would like me to have a larger antenna in the living room.

@Nullity I did a speed test on the Apple TV with the SpeedTest App, I got sustained 111 mbps download and 43 mbps upload. That is pretty good WiFi off the extender, I would say. I have the Apple TV connected to the Network, through the Extender.

I'm not sure if my wife would like me to have a larger antenna in the living room.

@BreakingDad I know, I would have the same problem as well, that's why instead of buying more Linksys antennae for the Extender, I replaced the stock, with the ones I took off the Asusu 68U. They are black and a bit bigger than the ones the RE6500 came with but not as intrusive. We have the extender in the living room on a shelf and my wife has decorated some nick nacks in front of it, so you can't really see it, it blends. ;)

Well, I reflashed turns out it is a bad setting thats causing the problem. While manually re-entering the QOS settings I was able to corrupt the QOS setting(s) again. Only way to clear it is to do a factory reset and start all over again. Up until Cox enabled native IPv6 3 days ago never had a problem with QOS and its likely related to their implementation. For now its no more QOS for me!!!!!
 
Do you have any idea which setting is the causing the problem?

I just checked the Cox site and my area isn't listed for IPv6 this year :(

I only had one custom QOS rule for an OOMA voip adapter.

The rule is mac address, any proto and highest priority. I tried deleting the rule and it worked until a reboot and problem reoccurred. I suspect the setting is QOS related but its not something visible on a screen. I deleted the rule but it appears the setting thats corrupted isn't cleared by the rule deletion.

Then again it could be a timing issue with IPv6 that causes a corrupted value that persists until a factory reset.

If you have any ideas let me know but this is the worst kind of problem that a reboot does not correct.

PS the fact it only affects LAN connections strongly suggests timing to me.
Also, and more importantly the fact that your firmware worked when Cox turned on IPv6 speaks volumes about the work you and Merlin are doing....thanks much!

I'm having trouble blocking an ip in the network services filter from the web gui. I recently did a factory reset and I'm on V14E1. I know for sure this worked on a previous version but I'm not sure which one. Only thing different config wise is I now have the default 192.168.x.x ip range instead of 10.x.x.x ip range. The ip I want filtered is 192.168.100.1.
I have:
Enable Network Services Filter set to yes
Black list
all other default
and
Source IP set to *.*.*.*
Destination IP set to 192.168.100.1
Protocol set to TCP (also tried TCP ALL)

I cleared the browser cache, rebooted modem and rebooted router to no avail. Is this broke or am I in err?
 
You can't really block an internal IP (from the same switch), since the switch in behind the firewall, the firewall does protect the switch, but does not work inside the switch. You can only filter something like an internal IP talking to an external IP.

Normally, the 192.168.100.x subnet will not be accessible at all unless you add routing or move the router to the same subnet. What method are you using? Can you provide a bit more specifics on your local lan setup (router address and netmask).
 
I'm new to this forum, and want to upgrade my RT-N66U to John's fork of Merlin. A google search reveals tons of information, much of it out of data (and possibly inapplicable).

There seems to be a lot of concern with bricking the N66U if some intermediate upgrades aren't done first; I don't know if that's still the case.

I'm currently running stock ASUS factory build: 3.0.0.4.376_3861

Can I just use the existing ASUS admin screen to flash to John's 14E1 release, or is there some intermediate step I need to take?

There really is no way of bricking your router using John's fork so forget that worry. Also no you can not upgrade to this fork via the router checking for updates. You will need to go to the first post on this thread and download the TRX file for your model router and install manually then do a factory reset and set up the router again. I can tell you this John's firmware works excellent on the RTN66U i think you will like it..

Welcome to the forum!

The intermediate upgrades can sometimes be required on the AC56 or AC68 when moving to later 376/378 code, not the N66...so no worries there.

You can load the fork firmware directly from the router gui, just make sure the first thing you do after loading the firmware is a factory default reset (this matches the internal router setup with the new firmware)and then reconfigure any custom settings you have on the router.

Thanks for the update. the interface seems faster.

unfortunately ,this one follow the trend with breaking Windows media center being able to use HDhomerun network tuners.
I guess this is from Asus code upstream because latest official and Merlin's firmware breaks it too :(.

rolling back my 68p to V14. for now, If there is any data I can provide to help let me know.
