I can always go back to older version or back to the original merlin 376 that I had before upgrading to John's with no problem, is that correct? And if I go to v16E1 I don't need to reset to default or anything like that, right?

A factory default reset is NOT required if coming from any level of the fork or Merlin 374.42 or 374.43 code. Coming from any other level does require a factory default reset after the code is loaded.

No need for a factory reset when jumping between different versions of John's fork. However moving away from John's fork a reset is required.

Sorry for the echo i see Colin already answered your question.. :)

Is this before or after moving from John's fork to the other?

Thanks. Remember reading that somewhere, but after 60 pages, it's hard to find out which one it is :).

@hmt If you came from 376 to John's fork (any version) then you should have done a factory reset after installing the firmware. It's in post #1.

Sorry I had my connection reversed.

I understand wireless performance is not even closed to wired and is impacted by many factors. I wasn't expecting wireless speed to be even closed to wired. But 70Mpbs is way too low when I have Gb connection. I'd expect at least 200+ unless that's not possible. I was just simply comparing before and after upgrading to John fork and trying to find out if anything else that I might have missed.

Setup is very simple. I don't use any features whatsoever, no QoS, no guest network, nothing. just couple machines connected via a Gb switch and few iphones and chromecast connected wirelessly via 5Ghz (all AC).

Test I did was a simple speedtest from various devices.
I can get 200+ and even like 300 at times on iPhone 6s with AC66 and this fork. Laptop on wireless N (not AC) can get 90-100 pretty consistently. I would expect the AC68 could do the same. I would check the channel you are on with others around you using inssider and make sure that is not creating an issue. (Have had that happen since I am in an area with lots of networks) Point being this fork will allow those speeds. Also try speedsmart app, it seems more consistent than speedtest.net app which sometimes shows slow connections unless you change servers. Another test for device to router is "wifi sweetspot" app. That will show you the connection between your devices and the router.

I had a similar issue at one point after flashing this fork similar to yours and I had to use the command to reset defaults via SSH verses the gui and wps button. Those did seem to reset defaults but didn't fix the speed issue for whatever reason. Just a thought.

Ping is mostly affected by traffic contention... meaning, there must usually be a bandwidth pinch-point, which is usually the WAN/internet connection.

Most likely, if you have lag, either your internet sucks, or it is saturated (bittorrent?), or you have a misconfiguration.

Even with my RT-N66U, I rarely saturate the LAN. Though, I saturate my anemic 12Mbit/768Kbit WAN constantly. Proper QoS helps alleviate the WAN overloads.

Thanks for this useful info. This is very interesting. I just tried speedsmart like you suggested and connection is >250Mbps very consistent (after 10 tests from multiple devices and matched with what wifi sweetspots showed) while speedtest still showed 50Mbps until I picked the same server that speedsmart picked then the speed was the same (even though the server speedtest picked was right where I am at). So how do we know the actual speed is?? What free tools that people use to test their speed? I'd been using speedtest for years until today.

BTW when you say "this fork" you mean John's fork in general or this specific version that I am on (V13E1)??

i can`t find fork firmware: 374.43_2-17E1j9527
i see just 374.43_2-17BAj9527
will udpxy for IPTV working with this fork?

374.43_2-17E1j9527 is in the making/testing phase.
Thanks for helping out!

Had a bit of a delay due to a disk crash that held my development environment :( Had most of it backed up, but had to recreate/retest a bit. V17 should be out in a few days.

BTW....I saw your post regarding the dnsmasq problem and have pulled out the dnsmasq update for now.

Ouch.

Been through a few hard drive deaths and it is not fun.

That sucks. Yeah.. disks fail anytime. I create backups of everything because I can't rely on disks

Read the changelogs for the two firmware. No point someone just copying it here for you.
