GT-AX6000 Firmware issue

MNDan

New Around Here
Hi - I've got an Asus GT-AX6000 manufactured in 2022 that I can't get to update the firmware. The version it's always on is 3.0.0.4.388_23012-g1166fba.

I've tried all of the recommendations here including hard reboot (via WPS + Power cycle) and attempted the use of the Asus Rescue app and also the mini-browser firmware upload. Every method always results in some variation of "Firmware upgrade unsuccessful. This may result from incorrect image or error transmission. Please check the version of firmware and try again."

The strange part is that I bought this router in July of 2022 (and yes, I'm out of my warranty period), yet the firmware that it is stuck on was released in April of 2023 as near as I can tell. I thought maybe the earlier versions of this router had slightly different hardware that can't be updated past 3.0.0.4.388_23012, but the console always tells me that firmware 3.0.0.6.102_21514-g9affda2 is available for update, but the update always fails.

I've also tried installing slightly newer firmware than the 388_23012 release as well as different versions of the Asuswrt-Merlin firmwares for this router, but that didn't work either.

The router works fine but I'd love to be running the latest firmware. Any ideas?

Thanks - I love this place - such a wealth of info on all things networking!
Dan
