For those of us concerned about a lack of Wifi 7 clients to go with the ROG GT-BE98, Asus just launched the ROG Phone 7 and ROG Phone 7 Ultimate, both which appropriately support the Wifi 7 standard.

Tech specs for the Ultimate listed here:

My new OnePlus 11 5G has WiFi7 as well. I think most of the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen2 phones have it activated now.

Hope the 2.6Ghz Quad Core CPU'll provide better 10G wired speeds than the disappointing GT-AXE16000 and the venerable RT-AX89X.

If not, I'll probably go down the OpenWRT route with this mini PC that has 2 X SFP+ ports and 3 X 2.5G ports and just add the RT-BE96U as an AP:
Yes, at $700 I would definitely look into building my own unit as well and add a TRENDnet 6-Port 10G Switch for $190.

GT-BE98 with RMerlin gives me that "special" feeling, and my only prohibitive issue would be cost.
Absolutely zero issues with current setup, yet the evilness in my wicked heart demands I desire that GT-BE98! But only if it gets RMerlin FW
I don't intend to interrupt this stimulating fork of the original thread title, but do any of you knowledgeable persons have a reliable release date of the GT-BE98 for North American distribution?

Can´t wait till I get my dirty hands up on this piece of Evil Hardware 😁

Its estimated release date has been changed to June 2 2023. See link :

That's for the RT not GT although they might both come out at the same time, thanks for the info

I thrown it into the RT thread aswell.

Changed to 6/30 as of now
That's not the GT-BE98. If only there was a proper link to post on the RT-BE96
Gee Wally, can you and your buddies stop getting a guys' hopes up.
Not that I have the money/need for the GT-BE98, and still requires RMerlin FW for consideration!

Yes, the link was for the RT-BE96U... it can be pre-ordered now with estimated shipping on 6/27/23.

@jkxs
I was pointing to the fact that this is not the proper place to discuss the 96U, since this is the GT-BE98 forum ;)

These routers are pure disappointment as they missed a golden chance to include a 10G SFP+ port like TP-Link BE routers. 10G SFP+ port could give many of us a chance to get rid of their Fiber ONU/ONT and just use a SFP+ GPON stick and have a clean setup like RT-AX89X did.
These Asus routers also seem to have been overpriced by $100.

It's 2023 H2. Everything is overpriced by $100. :)
