Dear SNB,

Currently deployed and have setup a small network with a VSAT connection of 6/2mbps and a 100GB quota.

We have a quota free period from 0230 to 0830 AST and I was curious as how to automate Windows Update to only download and install during the quota free periods?

From my experience setting the times for the automatic updates only sets up the actual install time and the system(s) will download whenever a idle network connection is detected.

Anyone have any ideas besides having someone wake up in the middle of the night to start it?

Use the BIOS features to start the computers, leave them on for a couple of hours then shut down at a certain time.

Example:
BIOS start time 2:30 AM

WU slated for 3:00 AM

Initiate a computer shutdown (many free programs available) at 4 or 5 AM.

Forgot to mention that all the systems are laptops, so most of them do not have that feature available.

Let the laptops sleep overnight, with Task Scheduler events to wake them up at 2:30 AM.
