Hi,
Telnet, SSH? eSATA? USB3 seems working good.

I've observed a similar issue on my AC66U. I got 2 wired computers and 1 wireless ones, smartphone. Whenever a wireless device makes a connection to the router, both my wired computers drop a single packet. I do not know why but it's easy to see with ifconfig on my 2 Linux computers. Also my smartphone (an LG Optimus L7 II) will disconnect after a certain time and reconnect back really fast. Sometimes it goes for many hours, usually 9-10, without dropping connection, but on other days it has difficulty staying connected for a few hours. I can't figure out if this is a router problem or a smartphone problem. However, I have a suspicion that it's the smartphone as I tried it on the TP-Link router and it behaves similary

I notice it on my r7000 because my video will buffer like crazy. then it will fix itself. And thats on a wired connection. 68u seems to suffer the same issue. and your 66u as well.

Maybe. I never had issues with wired connections. I watch a lot of movies (read: 3-4 movies after each other) using my Blu-ray player which is hooked to the router and my desktop streams video to it. I've never seen a connection drop while watching

You mean this which I linked earlier in this thread?
http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=891186#891186

No..i don't think that was it. I have searched and read too much lately about this one model... can't remember what is what anymore...lol.

No. Dyn acquired TZO. different than DynDNS.

TZO redirects to Dyn now. If you want TZO service, you have to sign up for Dyn plans. Based on what I see, they are the same now. Current TZO plans/users will eventually be migrated to dyn (if they havnt already)

To be fair... tweaker and pro using a wireless router thats 250 isint pro :). but thats a different discussion. And for home use its a bit overkill to go into anything better.

OK....pro-consumer line. Didn't mean to imply pro as in business/corporate/enterprise level. (cause those are indeed are a completely different product) But, then again, the old WRT routers, though sold as consumer routers, were heavily used in many businesses. Those were the icons to a place having wifi, back when wifi hotspots was new and such an amazing thing.

Use whatever term you like. Power user, advanced user, modder, tweaker....people all have different definitions and view points of such terms. The old WRT routers were well know to be used my tweakers and modders.

That's pretty good considering the router just came out. With better drivers and tweaked firmware, this router should do a much better job.

Yep I agree any router I've had has usually performed even better with custom firmware... and a few driver updates also tend to boost speeds as well... I'm on day 2 with mine.. and I love it... just can't wait for some custom firmware to appear..

For myself, custom firmware allows a lot more configuration to be done and a lot more resource monitoring but it rarely has given my routers better performance than stock firmware. This is especially true for wireless performance. I hope Linksys keeps developing the stock firmware and doesn't rely on the open-source crowd.

Guys,
I have posted pics and a review when I picked up this beauty on Fri. on the Linksys forums.

Like many others , the build quality is top notch and the initial FW worked great out of the box. Once configured, router just worked!!!!!

Caveats:
1) Initial and latest FW work great....period
2) Thermostatic fan. fracking brilliant!!!!!
3) Build quality ..top notch
4) Wireless range is constant and steady
5) Worth the $50.00 differential against the competition
6) xbox1 ....no port forwarding needed. OPEN NAT !!!!!!
7) This router just rocks:D

THiggins, we all awaiting for your in depth review and tear down. Thus far were all giving end user experience. However, your technical writeup will say it all!!!!:D

Read your review in other thread.

Two things that are nice to hear; setting get instantly saved and no more BS router resets between firmware updates. I'm so sick of it on Asus firmware. Even on DDWRT firmware, all settings are saved and applied with in seconds after making a hundred changes.

Waiting for Tim's review as well. I still feel people are getting a little too excited over this router. To me its Linksys finally catching up to the rest of the crowd and getting back in the game. The firmware seems a little slimmed down and lets see if Linksys actually develop it and continue supporting it. The Linksys forums are still full of threads with people complaining about firmware patches for other models that haven't seen updates in months. I hope Linksys prove me wrong as I wouldn't mind picking up one of these myself. I've become discouraged with all the bugs in Asus firmware.

Thanks...much appreciated. Like to add your able to save your router configuration. Found it under Troubleshooting>Diagnostic Tab. There your able to backup and restore router config and restore previous FW and Factory reset.

Last Fri when I had the router configured and internet ready, it saw that there was a new FW and I just downloaded and installed thru the GUI. Worked great no "reset" dance.

The latest router FW is located here. . It is in an image file and they say the router should be able to read it. For awhile I was thinking why would they do that and make us rip a disc just to see *bin* files.

The router has been up for 4 days and no problems to report!!!!!

Honestly the excitement for us is this product works!!!!! Hardware and software work well together and the software does not cripple the hardware. Configuration could not be any easier and pleasant to do.

Peace

Im ready for a change and get something else. The number 1 fix on Asus router, is to reset it. Dog ate your home work? Reset the router. Wife is cheating on you? Reset the router. Viagra no longer works? Reset the router!!

Or, Linksys waited and observed other companies by jumping on the AC band wagon way too soon. And now, these companies are spending months and months fixing bugs.

Everyone is waiting for firmware updates, not just Linksys users. Just look around.

I know for a fact that Asus and many DLink routers are near impossible to brick. They have a fallback firmware(usually called recovery mode or such) that are a god send when a flash goes wrong or firmware gets corrupted.

I really don't know much about how current Linksys firmware works and how easy/hard it is to brick their routers. I do know that their Belkin branded routers firmware is junk in of it self. I have had 4 of there routers(1 i owned personally) that were absolute trash and ended up on my pile of bricked/fubar Netgear routers that I use for target practice at the range:D

Asus certainly is at the top as far as pushing firmware updates go. I havn't seen any other companies do so good on that front.

"5) Worth the $50.00 differential against the competition"

This is very true. I struggled so much with my R7000 with QOS to work and (never) getting my media bridges to connect. Getting a refund for it then spending an extra $60 for the WRT1900AC was completely fine by me.

I'm very thankful I bought it.

My wrt610n had a recovery mode and so did wndr3700, so did few other older routers, so its nothing new. Asus made it simpler through the use of software that you install on your PC.

One of the reasons I bought Asus routers is because of the long term firmware support as you have mentioned. But looking back, its not a good thing. They fix 2-3 things and in the process they brake 2-3 things, and dance continues on and on for 6 months now. Take Merlin out of the equation and 6 months would turn in to a year.

And don't get me started on DLink routers, had the worst experience ever. But their $40 switch work just fine.

Its too soon to say what kind of support and bug fixes Linksys will bring to the table, plus there is lack of user feedback at this time. But we should see a better picture with in next few weeks.

The best QoS I have ever seen is with Gargoyle firmware. You can limit the bandwidth down to 1kbs per device. How much MB a device is allowed to download or upload; per day, week or month. How often would a limit would reset, at what time, day, week, etc. If you reached you allocated limit, you would get a warning on your screen. Simple to configure and it worked!! This was on Netgear wndr3700 router. A proper working QoS that I have only seen on $1,000+ businesses grade hardware. Not Tomatoe or DDWRT.

And the best part, I could limit bandwidth on the fly with out interrupting downloads or chatting on Skype. I would make changes to QoS and see instant results. No disconnects from wan or lan... It was seemles.
Its was pure awesomeness.

the only problem im seeing with this thing could be the fan.

in a laptop or pc where it is easy to clean/change the fan it is one thing. but in a small little router that ideally should run for years.

while i wanna see higher performance products. i dont know if i agree with the fan for cooling. though im sure it will offer superior performance while it works. since some users were saying there fan hadnt kicked in.
