Mesh node losing connection every now and then

I have mesh network, both main AP and the node being AC-68P. The node every now and then (1-2 times per hour usually) apparently loses connection to AP, which is manifested by the clients currently connected to the node losing internet. This lasts for 15-20 seconds, then it's restored. The AP does not lose connection to the internet at any time. I wonder if this is known problem and how to troubleshoot it.

Main AP and node? Do you mean the main router and AP? Or the main router and AiMesh node?

"Node loses connection to the AP" - this statement doesn't make sense to me.

How are they connected? Wired or wirelessly?

Main router and aimesh node. Connected wirelessly.

Loses connection = clients connected to the node lose connection to internet, in fact even to the main router. Ping fails.

I would be testing different (fixed) Control Channels, distance to the main router from the node (i.e. move node closer), and distance from the main router to the node (i.e. move the main router closer), or all three variables (if needed).

Save your Asuswrt-Merlin configuration, load stock Asuswrt on both units and test AiMesh operation again. If stable, load Asuswrt-Merlin on the main router only and restore your saved configuration. Leave the node on stock Asuswrt, Asuswrt-Merlin is not needed there. The "node" is a Repeater in wireless AiMesh configuration.

Don't listen to the above nonsense.

If you load RMerlin firmware, you must do a full reset (sooner or later), if you want a stable, dependable, and reliable network.

Just as important: DO NOT load a saved backup config file from stock firmware into RMerlin firmware (or vice-versa). That effectively un-does the full reset you performed.

Thanks; can you tell - with full reset, can I save and then restore the settings, or I have to re-enter everything by hand?

If you use a saved backup config file, you effectively undo any full reset you may have performed previously.

A full reset isn't just the WPS Button, Reset Button, or GUI reset methods. It also includes how you set it up afterward.
