Need a multi-AP system that (primarily) works

Well, yesterday, for the first time, my phone wouldn't connect to one of three SSIDs in the network. Nothing special about it, just one of three equal SSIDs.

And so it begins... :(
You need to look at postions, walls and power levels. Sometimes just re-positioning a little bit can help. If your power levels are too strong the clients will not roam.
Since you said they were equal as assume you have the same SSIDs and VLANs on all the APs.

Yep. I was also sitting on the couch where the AP is in direct line of sight 3m away. The first other AP is upstairs, past a reinforced concrete floor, so there was no roaming involved here.
 
Could've been something as simple as a DHCP lease renewal that just got out of sync. I'd suspect the phone, first.
