New Around Here
New earthlink service.
Only comes with SB5120 modem no wireless.
I already own a Netgear DGND3300v2 (this has built in ADSL modem)

Earthlink is cable internet.

Can disable options on the Netgear DGND3300v2 and allow it to provide wireless service to a small apartment?

I am familiar with setting this up for AT&T DSL but this is my first time with Earthlink high speed cable internet.

Any advice will help me to accomplish my task.

If you want to support more than one client then you need a wireless router. The DGND3300 does not have an Ethernet WAN port, so can't work for you.

thanks for your input....

Is there a router you can suggest for Earthlink High-speed Cable Internet?
I already have a Netgear 10/100/1000 GIGABIT ETHERNET PCI ADAPTER
GA311 installed.

Earthlink will give you a "free" Cisco-Linksys E1000 Wireless-N Router if you pay them $7.95/month extra for network support.

I have some USB "N" Adapters

I have 3 Net-books all have B/G adapters on motherboards.
HP
Lenovo
Dell

So it could be mixed environment. If I need to keep everything "G" I can do that as well.

I promise I will leave you be if you can answer this one.

Try to get them to provide a cable modem, no router.
You choose the router.

This is best, as if there are modem signal issues, it's all theirs- no blame game.

Indeed, in my Time Warner cable system, modems must be company provided and supported at no cost above the (too-high) cost of service and content.

Thanks again.
They did provide Motorola SB5120 cable modem.
It is which router to purchase where I am unsure.
Would any old Linksys or D-Link router do the trick

How about Cisco-Linksys Wireless-G Cable Gateway (WCG200)
all in one soulution
or
Motorola SURFboard SBG901 Wireless Cable Modem Gateway Wireless router - EN, Fast EN, IEEE 802.11b, IEEE 802.11g
or
D-Link Express EtherNetwork Security Router
4 x 10/100Base-TX LAN, 1 x 10/100Base-TX WAN - MPN: DI804HV
or
Netgear WNDR3700 RangeMax Dual Band Wireless-N Gigabit Router (Premium Edition)

just a good solid router that stays connected

You can use any wireless router that has an Ethernet WAN port. I wouldn't mess with any combination cable modem / routers. Best to stick with the cable modem that your ISP provides. As Stevech says, that way, if there are problems, you won't have a hassle getting service.

The Cisco Linksys E1000 would be fine if you're ok with a single band router. But buy it, don't "rent" it.

Thanks for the solid advice.
I purchased a refurbished E1000 for less than $30 shipped.
Everything works perfect no problems whatsoever.
Simple - easy - all I needed for my setup

Thanks for reporting back. Glad you got it sorted.
