Hi to all.

I read these boards for some time now, mainly for reviews, until now. I've come into a problem that i need help or, some explanation as to why.

Configuration:

Internet -> ROUTER (Asus RT-N16 with tomatousb) -> NAS (Qnap 212)
-> Toshiba Laptop
-> Network Player (Popcorn C-200)

Note: There are more devices connected, but bot the issue at hand i think this should be enough.

Cabling: CAT6
NICs: Gigabit (all devices)

Problem: Can't stream 1080p on network player due to bandwidth problem.

Thoughts:
You might say imediatly that it is a cabling problem between the NAS and Router or, between the Network Player and Router; Or, the Network player coun't handle 1080p on the NIC. Also it is clear that an Asus RT-N16 and that the QNAP Nas, both could do 60 MB/s.

Facts:
1. I can transfer files from NAS to the laptop at a 60 BM/s rate but can't watch 1080p movies because of bandwidth; This may lead you to say the problem lies on the Network player or it's cable. (but read below....)
2. If i use a bad ethernet cable that just allows 100 mbits connection between the NAS and router (or, a good cable and manually set the connection to 100 mbits instead of gbit on the NAS), i can stream 1080p perfectly, but the performance between laptop ans NAS will be 10-12 MB/s.

From this we could see ALL cables are working to Gbit specs and all devices too... but, to have Gbit speeds, or even 100 mbits speed capable of doing 1080p between NAS -> Router -> Network Player, i have to set the link of the NAS to 100 mbits! But when doing so, the laptop connection between NAS -> Router -> laptop, drops from 60 MB/s to 10-12 MB/s.

So i come to you, any thoughts on how i could solve this?...

Thanks in advance.

Ricardo Santos.

Ok... I did some more testing:

I put a 10/100 switch between the router and the network media player. Still the same conclusions...

Anyone?...

Thanks.

Hi,
Did you try only with player or with reduced number of clients on your net work?

Yes, i did try with only the player and, i'm the only one using the network during those times of testing...

How i see it, the cables are good, as independently everything works... the devices are good, as again everything works... just when both the the QNAP is set to gigabit, the network player couldn't get speeds higher that 20 mbits/s...
I set the QNAP to 100 mbits and everything is good! But then again, i only get 100 mbits from the qnap to the laptop...
