I'm tempted to go to Best Buy and see if they have any, but I promised myself that I wouldn't buy new networking gear without waiting for reviews/good fw after the way the AC68U shipped.

The way the price is creeping up with every new router release is kind of disconcerting though.

This delay is certainly harmful to the ASUS brand. You can't expect loyalty when you break the faith like this.

I thought ASUS was better than this.

What delay? Asus said Q3/Q4 2014. We're not past that original target date, so there is nothing being delayed here.

firmware 3.0.0.4.376_1311
performance is good just need to setup some more setting like qos the range is suppose to cover 5000sqft but I have yet to check it on my 2 story house.
usb speed I don't have anything to test the speeds sorry

Best Buy started selling early but there is a major firmware update arriving early next week that will need to be utilized for best performance. I will PM you the current beta.

Ya' just can't please all of the people, all of the time.

If the router came out early, owners who just bought a current model would say if they had known they would have waited.

If it doesn't appear as soon as leaked, others will bad-mouth the company.

We just cannot be pleased ................

I work at a Best Buy in New Jersey that started selling them today as well. Beastly looking router. I've been scouring the net for any reviews or even just more details on the specs but haven't had much luck finding anything.. yet.

Edit: Oh and our system shows it's supposed to be out on the 20th, so only 5 days early.

Reviews are in process. ;)

I always manage to own the top of the line Asus router for about 4 months before a newer model is announced or released :(

Welcome to the technology game :p

Again a 2.0 USB port. Why not 2 3.0 USB ports.

IIRC its due to bandwidth issues. Would have also liked to see the ram upped to match the new buffalo routers, maybe next gen we will be in for a surprise.

Same here, Canada, but, as Gary said, in about 2 weeks @ Bestbuy (Canada) - i went to check before he answered earlier today :p

That gives me some more time to polish things up on my RT-AC87U support ;)

In the meantime if any of you do get one and are interested in an alpha release of my firmware, please let me know. It's already running quite well for me, the main quirk I haven't been able to solve yet (might possibly be resolved once I get newer GPL code from Asus in the coming days) is Stealth Mode can sometime be broken - the 5Ghz LED sometimes randomly turns itself back on. I suspect this is done by the Quantenna section (which has its own CPU running its own firmware BTW).

Otherwise, everything is working: the new QoS/Parental Control (expect a performance boost in that area in the near future tho, as I'm using an older version of that engine for now), IPTraffic... Only casualties as I indicated before are IPSec support and L7 Filter support had to be removed.

Just wondering.... what's the difference between the R and U models (e.g. AC87R and AC87U or AC68U and AC68R)? I only see the U models on Asus' website.

The R models are for specific retailers, exactly the same hardware and software.

U is online purchase only and R is a in store retailer like best buy or walmart.
