Trying 272(1) now.

When I tried the 3xx ones from Asus I could access my USB attached drives without having to log in to them despite having security turned on.

With this 272(1) version I have to log in appropriately.

For me the 3xx did not have any 5 ghz problem but with the open access to my USB attached storage I didn't want to use them.

The reason why they made those recent releases and removed all previous firmwares is that the latest batch of RT-N66U uses a different flash chip. This new chip is not compatible with previous firmwares. So to avoid people accidentally flashing an incompatible firmware, they removed them from the site.

They released an update to 270 (272) because they are well aware of the stability issues with 370, and wanted to give people the possibility of still running the older, more stable FW even on this new revision, until the moment they can have it debugged.

I've been using this new .272/1 firmware since it was released for download and it is working well and stable. I do have a question though. Why oh why have they not fixed the issue where the system log is filled with those eth0, eth1, eth2 error messages when the VPN broadcasts are enabled? This has been around so long, and it seems to be such an easy fix. Why not just fix it. At the very least just comment out the code lines that are printing out those messages to the sys log.
RMerlin can you do this in your versions of firmware? I hope you can. Thank You!

Can you tell me where this 3.0.0.4.372 firmware is for the RT-N66U? I can't seem to locate it on the ASUS web page. Thanks......

The B1 is the older version of the RT-N66U, right? Mine is about a year old. Anyway, the webpage won't let me download the new firmware my clicking Global. And I am not going to install the download manager or P2P to download it (those seem to work, click Global just does nothing) thanks...

Tired that, installer downloads and installs fine. Firmware file not found.

The link "worked" a few minutes ago, "worked" as in downloading something. However, what file was there in the placeholder was 272 and not the supposedly new 372. Trying again now and the link is dead.

Burtal, did you actually try and download this at the time you posted or did you just note that this was up?

noticed this in the morning when i got to work ..... so no, i did not try to download it as it would be pointless.....now at home i see i cannot download it either

and the http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/wireless/RT-N66U_B1/FW_RT_N66U_B1_3004372.zip link say no file found.....maybe Asus withdraw it for a reason .... brick risk or something else but did not update the web page

Noticed now that on AC page there is the same build ...... also fixing the 5ghz issue

Just tried .372, still cannot connect at 40MHz. channel width on 5GHz. So maximum 216Mbps connection on 5GHz.

Back to the future...372.30_2.

So it goes.

A few oddities about this release. Aside from the website link not pointing to the actual file on the support site, the changelog also seems to be coming from the RT-AC66U (there isn't any beamforming option in the RT-N66U webui for instance - this is an option for the RT-AC66U).

Might be an intermediary release that Asus might have pushed to at least address the AiCloud security issues. We'll see in the coming days I guess. This is definitely a recent build, since the kernel's build date is from July 15th.

And yes, 5 GHz 40 MHz is still broken for me as well in this release.
