It does, it's on the WAN page. Disable the option to automatically connect to DNS servers.

I just looked and disabled it, and it does offer the option to enter the IPs for primary and secondary DNS servers, but no place to enter A/CNAME records.

That's a different thing.

Dnsmasq is not compiled with support to operate as an authoritative nameserver. You can't customize its config file either.

I have a question for all the unit owners how is upnp, an nat on this device, can you get open nat on two consoles simultaneously?
Also was the unit worth the purchase since I'm considering getting one?

I get Open Nat on both my XboxOne S currently. Hoping to see if the same occurs with my XboxOne X when it arrives Nov 7th.

So that's two Xbox one s consoles cool are you running the port number change update or are they using the same port number, I just wanted to be sure cause if both get open nat on two copies of the same game and both consoles have open nat then I might buy one.
I remember that after a few updates my 88u started having nat issues, I'm hoping that the case will be different if I get a rapture.
Also do you use adaptive qos and how is it if so?

No port forwarding. I have a DMZ on my network NAS Plex server only. I used to DMZ one Xbox but needed it for my server more. I also run IPv6 on both Xbox as well. I used QoS before but it didn't do much so I disabled it.

No. It didn't work well. It's not really needed when you have good speeds. I have 350 mbps. If I had under 60 I'd use it. It lagged my games when I had it on and streamed Netflix or Hulu on another TV.

Odd, maybe it needs a patch or something to fix it, I suspect its due to sfq, packet scheduling which actually sucks, since cake-FQ_Codel is a lot better, I hope asus switches sfq to FQ_codel or cake-fq_codel.

I've ran Asus ROG products as long as they have been out. Laptops, MB, monitors, everything ROG. This is the last Asus product I ever buy. Complete junk, and it looks like ASUS is just going to roll onto the next router they can hype sell and forget, repeat.

Asus has a better record than others when it comes to supporting their routers via firmware updates? What makes you think they are forgetting this one?

A lot of the issues have been resolved on the RT-AC86U with the last two firmware updates (same hardware platform). I'd expect these fixes to be rolled into the GT-AC5300 sooner than later - they might be waiting to finalize dealing with the Krack issues at the moment. Keep in mind Asus has like 20-30 different models in need of updating...

UPnP is sketchy right now, at least for me. I'm having issues with devices being unable to see my DLNA server, whereas I didn't have the same issue with my RT-AC3200 on Merlin. Having other issues with casting, Bonjour, etc.

That makes sense, but expensive, top-tier products should be given some priority or else you create negative marketing.

One can rationalize all day for Asus, but ultimately it is results that matter.

So I went to best buy today and this router is now 299. Imo even with the issues it's a steal.

So I wrote to ASUS about the KRACK issue. Below is the answer you will get back. Pretty understandable.

Thank you for contacting ASUS Product Support. My name is Olga O. I understand that you want to know when are we going to release the firmware update for KRACK wpa2 vulnerability. I know how important it is to get the information you need to protect your router. I am happy to assist you.

Associated CVE IDs: CVE-2017-13077 through CVE-2017-13082, CVE-2017-13084, CVE-2017-13086 through CVE-2017-13088.

ASUS is aware of WPA2 vulnerability. We are now co-working with chipset vendors for solutions and will release patched firmware for affected routers soon.
These vulnerabilities are potentially exploitable only if an attacker is in physical proximity to and within wireless range of your network.

Before firmware released, we recommend you refer to the follow steps.
(1) Only visit the HTTPS website.
(2) Use Ethernet.
(3) Consider using cellular data on your phone.
(4) Update the latest software when receiving the notification from ASUS.

ahh ok I'm just wondering in the case of multi console support and things, eg two Xbox one consoles both with open nat running for example black ops 3, both game copies having open nat.
I just want to be sure that it works, and its not like the last time I used asus wrt on my 88u, and my nat went from open to moderate on a single pc, and I had nat issues when I tried to launch 2 copies of black ops 3 on on the main pc and another on the spare pc, first copy had open nat second had mod nat both games use the same port number, unfortunately the router didn't correctly redirect to another external port for the second copy thankfully RMerlin fixed it in his firmware, I'm just not sure if its still an issue in asus wrt on the gt-5300, that's why I'm asking, cause if its been fixed on this unit it, make the unit more palatable as per say, if I do decide to purchase one.

I'll test when I get my Xbox One X in and report back...
