My iPad Air 2 works fine so far on this new release using 5GHz AC, it did work fine previously on earlier releases but only on 2.4GHz. I just checked it again and it connects fine from sleep and it has been there for some hours. It is early days for me to pronounce all is well with the Air2 on 5GHz AC but so far it is looking just fine.

This may be the first really great release but I guess it is another week or so before I will actually say that. At the moment I'm just hopeful.

Edit: I leave beam forming on.
That's interesting, because it was my Air 2 and iPhone6 that were having problems - with beamforming on it would disconnect in sleep and when you woke it up there would be no WiFi symbol for couple of seconds. Never happens without beamforming. Older iPads seemed fine. I also felt there might be some packet loss going on - some web sites would take forever to load and when they did they would stop and start. Of course that could be anything! But it seemed OK before and does again now, after. If you still feel happy after another couple of days please report back and I'll reboot everything and try again. Maybe it was a coincidence unrelated to beamforming.

OK. I'm still not convinced it is fixed but I will know in a week if I have no issues that it is fixed. It didn't misbehave all the time on 5GHz but often enough that it always got switched back to 2.4GHz. I can't comment on the iPhone as my wife has a 5 and that doesn't have AC but is fine. I have a Nokia 1520, a Microsoft Surface Pro 3 and a MacBook Air (mid 2013 so has AC) and all work fine on the older releases.

Holy $^$& this firmware is beast with all my mac stuff!!! They have raised the bar continually with these last 3 firmware releases.

Hi all,
I have iPhone 5, iPhone 6, iPad Air 2, Windows 8.1 PC, and RT-AC87R. The iOS devices have the latest iOS 8.2 installed. The asus router has the latest RMerlin firmware installed 378.52

The issue with 5Ghz Wifi AC is still there. The iOS devices do disconnect when they go to sleep mode (never happens when they are connected to 2.4 Ghz wifi) The issue is only with iOS devices connected to 5Ghz wifi AC. Although my Windows PC never disconnects form WiFi 5Ghz AC.

The iOS devices also have a well known issue with 5Ghz AC: When you are connected and using it, browsing, facebook, youtube, etc.. sometimes you would see that the wifi is still connected, but there is no data going through, so your pages won't load, videos won't play and etc, it doesn't work even though it shows as "connected to wifi" so it is the same thing as if you were disconnected.

I've tried many different things as playing with wifi channels, with channel width, DTIM Interval, Beacon Interval, RTS Threshold and many more. Nothing's helped yet. But I've never tried ti disable Beamforming on wifi AC, I'll try that one and see how it goes.

Interesting but, this is a thread about ASUS build 4590. What is the point you are trying to make posting your experience with Merlin?

I forgot to say that I had the 4950 istalled and it didn't make any difference in 5 Ghz wifi AC, was still dropping even though they had done some improvements to iPhone 6 wifi issues. And yes you are right it is the wrong thread I used, my bad.

In my view 5Ghz beamforming is still broken in 4950. It is still disabled by default if I remember correctly. And that "connected but no wifi" problem has also been tied in several threads to beamforming.

I thought the 5GHz behavior is normal for iOS wireless devices as part of battery management. It'll wake up when an incoming data is sensed, if it's not coming on, then it's a bug.

I find with beamforming OFF my iDevices sometimes (but not always) seem to roam down to 2.4 Ghz, but they stay connected somewhere - Asus Wireless log will show them somewhere, 2.4 or 5, and the wireless symbol is always there as soon as they are woken up, eg. by the lid opening.

With beamforming ON this is NOT the case. They will disappear from the Asus Wireless log and when woken up there can be no wireless symbol for 2 or 3 secs. This, of course, means they are not available to receive messages, emails or, for the iPad, calls from an iPhone.

Updated to 4950 from 3754 last night.
Did multiple hard resets to finally get rid of the old settings, strange how they were sticking.
Manually re-entered everything.
Everything seemed to go pretty smooth.
Enabling a few features broke the router a couple times (like VPN for example), but hard power down and restart got them going after being enabled, still up since last night.
5Ghz range is the same, still crappy, 30-40ft line of sight, I'm sticking with using 2.4!
I kept the USB 3.0 disable mode off just to see if it has improved 2.4Ghz range, the range is still limited, but seems to do slightly better than before... so far.
AiCloud on my Android fails to browse large file listings on the NAS, kind of lame, I just FTP to get them instead and it works fine.
NTP is working by default, hurray!
Web console seems faster by quite a bit.
No more log errors!.. so far. Yay!
Looking good ASUS, keep it up! :)

You will love this. About 90 seconds after I wrote the above post the router crashed, showed powered on but no connections not even on ethernet! Too funny, and sad, that's what I get for trying to say something nice about it! LOL
Something I forgot to add... My SSD is now detected automatically after a reboot. Previously I'd have to unplug both the power and USB to get it recognized again.

I disabled WPS (was enabled by default), didn't someone mention they had stability issues after doing that with this firmware rev?

Is the VPN completely broken?

When I very first enabled VPN after the update it just hung enabling it indefinitely. I powered down using the power button and when it came back up I was able to enable VPN again, and it works as before... OpenVPN.

Yeah, it's not working at all on my end. I rolled back and it's still not working.
It's got something to do with the firewall, because it wont let another vpn server's traffic through, either.

load balancing with vpn is broken as well. And after a reboot it didn't come back up, again.

Port forwarding is broken. Won't take any entries.

Hmmm ? I forward port 22 for SFTP running on my NAS, I'm not having any problems. I installed 4950 two days ago and haven't
had a hiccup yet (knock on wood !).
1 desktop, 4 laptops, printer, NAS, HDHomerun, 2 security cameras, IP phone, 3 android phones, media player, smart tv (stream movies on a regular basis). All working good so far.

Will it keep any of your entries? I click apply and it goes through the motions, and on reload the page is blank again.
