So I recently upgraded to an RT-BE96U from an RT-AC5300 and I've been experiencing a really strange issue. What happens is my internet connection across my wireless network (wired clients seem to be ok) is dropped.... except the router never loses internet. The router is pulling an IPV4 WAN IP (and it is a true WAN IP), I can ping websites from Network Tools through the router's interface, and I can even successfully run an internet speed test through the router's speed test app in the Adaptive QoS menu. I can also successfully conenct to some of my wired clients from outside the LAN, so they also have an internet connection. All my wireless clients however are connected to the network, but with "no internet connection". I opened a terminal app on my phone and I can ping IPs from the terminal, but I cannot ping a URL, so my initial thought was this was a DNS issue, so I reverted any changes to DNS settings to default, so just set to use ISP DNS with no other settings enabled. That seemed to fix my issue at first.... until a few hours later my whole network lost internet connection again, except the router itself still has a WAN IP, can still ping URLs, and can still run a speed test, so my router itself DEFINITELY has an internet connection. That intenet connection is just for some reason not being shared with the rest of the network. Also strange, while my phone can ping an IP when it is "connected without internet", if I attempt to browse to that IP (e.g. 142.251.167.113 which is a Google.com IP) it is unable to connect. If anyone has any advise on what might be wrong and how to fix it, I'm begging for some help at this point haha, I'm at my whits end! Power cycling the router (just a reboot doesn't seem to do the trick) will often resolve the issue, but only for a short period before it returns again.

Did you copy your settings from AC class to BE class environment?

No, fresh setup

This smells like it needs a factory reset via GUI and power cycle.

If You flashed the newest and did not factory reset AFTER the flash, this may be your issue.

So long as nothing was imported from the old AC router , you may get away with restoring the BE saved config setting after you do a factory restore.

Was modem power cycled (cable)?

Modem was power cycled. I have updated to the latest Asus firmware (I am not on Merlin as it won't let me flash the firmware.... another post on here suggested that is because Merlin's firmware is based off an older build and apparently Asus implemented security features that prevents users from downgrading their firmware). Nothing was imported from the AC router. I'll try a factory reset I guess

Latest ASUS should also contain New security features (reason you need to do factory reset).

Save your config file first.

I'll give that a shot. Wouldn't uploading an old config basically undo the factory reset though?

Maybe. Worth the shot before you have to do it all over from scratch. A shortcut if it works, if not the long road again with another factory restore.

You can also update the AC5300 to newest ASUS or RMerlin, I would use RMerlin.

You definitely have to factory reset afterwards. 386.10 to 386.14_2 was messy at a friends, complete reset.

Already have the 5300 on Merlin. That was the first thing I tried to do when setting up this new guy, but the router updated while I was setting it up and I was locked out from flashing Merlin at that point. I'll have to wait until his next release and hope it is built on at least the same version I'm currently on or newer haha

And yes then I'll have to factory reset, but hey, who enjoys setting everything up again more times than they need to? Haha
If you save your configuration before you do it then all you have to afterwards is just reload it and see if the issue cleared up.

Is the BE now working?

I haven't reset it yet.... while posting this thread I did another power cycle and it has been working since so my thought process is I'm just not gonna touch it for now haha but the second it gives me that error again it's getting the ol factory reset. And, let's be honest, given how recurrent this issue has been, that's probably gonna end up happening

Power Cycle is a step often missed.

This most Recent Security patch for the botnet is requiring more work for the consumer.

Well, that didn't take too long. It went out again. Time for the reset. I'm not gonna even bother with the backup, I'll just do it fresh again, just in case

Well this is a new one.... pressed that reset button plenty, even tried holding it down for way longer than should be necessary.... nothing happens. Guess I'll try resetting through the GUI, but I've heard that does a less thorough job, but idk if that's true

Edit: I power cycled, again, and then it let me reset using the button
