Hello guys!
First of all, I have to congratulate the great community that this forum has. There's some really great people here helping and giving advice. Thank you for that.
My thread here is about the RT-N56U that should be arriving at my door tomorrow or the next day to replace a NetGear N300 WNR2200 wireless router that I had before.
Basically, it did a very poor job. But I suspect it was due to the fact that I live in a place where on a normal day I can see around 40 WiFi signals around me, bringing a lot of interference to the mix.
This made the signal strength drop to 50% just 10 ft away from the router itself and when moving to the next room it came all the way down to 20-25% strength (I used iStumbler for Mac to analyse the signal).
I hope the Asus will make a much better job, specially on the 5GHz band.
The question I wanted to ask you guys, is regarding the firmware. Should I leave the original one or upgrade to something else?
The devices connected to the router will be:
- 2 MacBooks
- 2 iPhones
- 1 iPad
- 1 HDD via USB for Time Machine and Media Server
Thank you all.
