As seen in http://www.snbforums.com/threads/asus-rt-ac66u-3-0-0-4-380-4005.34651/ I've suffered issues related with low download speed with original firmware Asuswrt 3.0.0.4.380_4005 (Spanish ISP Movistar). No problem with Asus Merlin 380.62_1. In another Spanish forum this issue is reported too:

At this point I don't know if there is a problem with the new firmware or something related with the new firmware and the WAN connection config to my ISP because I haven't found complaints about the problem worldwide.
I've contacted with ASUS EMEA support and they have asked me for logs. I'm waiting for news.
I hope you can have in mind before making major changes in Merlin firmware based in Asuswrt 4005
