Your new version is buggy! Not even reinstall can get it out of a loop. If one of the VPN is not connecting, it is impossible to open the menu and change anything.

after caught in a loop while opening vp from AMTM, only workaround I found was to restart initialisation again and reduce monitored vpn slots to 2 even the AX88 has 5. At least it was possible to enter the menu again and to completely uninstall it.

What firmware?
Typing "s" while vpnmon is running will bring up the menus, once the initial test is done of course. Not buggy.

I've run it with 5 connected VPNs for days while testing... but in the real world, I only have 2 connected at a time. If you are going to have it run in the background, you want to run it from a command prompt (not from AMTM), using something like "vpnmon-r3 -screen". Let us know what kind of problems you're having, and we'll try to help. Not able to glean much from your complaint.

FW: 3004.388.8_4

" s " doesn’t respond, it was always caught in the 3rd VPN - while connecting - even they do connect when I start them all manually. Problem is, as long as it is in "connecting" process the " s " menu and nothing is responding. only ctr+c can terminate. funny thing is the VPN Nr. 2 did get a timeout, while Nr. 3 and on doesn’t.

Why don't you prevent slot 3 from being monitored while you troubleshoot the issue. Which VPN provider do you use? Are you seeing city exit names or ping values?

other question,

Why there is still a VPNMON 2 in AMTM available, as the only thing it does is show a message it is sunset and after that automatic uninstall. No way to open it at all. Even the function would be sufficient for most to keep a VPN monitored. And it was simple and easy.

well, because i didn’t get into the menu to change that! Only way is the workaround to do a new initialization an disable all but 2 VPN slots, after that I was able to enter the "s" menu. n
ping values as it is not one of your favourite vpn providers. but was working fine with ur scribts so far

this, from page one here:

To initially configure this script, open up a dedicated SSH window, and simply execute the script:

sh /jffs/scripts/vpnmon-r3.sh -setup

after that the "configuration" menu show up and I could reduce to only 2 VPN Slots (within this menu). After that can open from AMTM the main menu via "s" again. And than I was able to disable the monitoring under (M)- Menu

well, on the first time yes. but after that I did try monitor all 5 VPN Slots. which didn’t work. hanging on Slot 3, and if it hangs forever, u can not do anything any more, not open the (S) Menu or anything.

The same essential monitoring functionality in VPNMON-R2 is present in R3. As you mentioned, R2 is sunset. It will eventually get removed from AMTM as an option.

If it's hanging on one of your slots, then it may not be able to ping 8.8.8.8 (or whatever IP you may have specified in the config), or perhaps it can't resolve a city name from your exit IP. Could you be blocking https://ipv4.icanhazip.com or http://ip-api.com ?

ping is set 8.8.8.8 and actually I did whitelist ipv4.icanhazip.com some month ago, just checked, it is still whitelisted in skynet. for resolve, I use directly IPs no names in VPN config. manually they all start, no problems.
well, anyhow, if I am the only one getting hang, just forget it. I try without that functionality for a while. About to set up a new router soon.
Thanks anyway for ur suggestions and help

well, I disagree. VPNMON 2 did a good enough job! It was able to do keep always one VPNslot running if the first was shut down. AND it was EASY to use and understand. On the "Easy" part VPNMON 3 lost the game, simply.

Without any more info to go on, it's pretty much impossible to troubleshoot with the vague bit of information you provided. If things work for your other VPN slots, but just not slot #3, then there's an issue with that slot, the way it's connecting, the ability for it to route, ping, etc... something you would need to dive into further it would seem. If I can run 5 simultaneous VPN slots with no issue, using NordVPN, AirVPN, and now recently Proton VPN, then there's something else going on on your end that I can't account for. Hoping a new fresh install on a new router will help your situation.

Out of the box, VPNMON-R3 doesn't monitor anything when you run it for the first time. It just reports what it sees based on what's currently running on your router. You can enable monitoring by turning slots on and off, which just means it will help you get the tunnel reconnected if it goes down. And it gives you the ability to manage VPN server lists either manually or automatedly, using any VPN provider you wish. All these things weren't possible with R2. I've not heard of anyone else in this community struggling with "ease of use" issues.

If you have any suggestions on how to make VPNMON-R3 even "easier" to understand, like in your particular situation, I'm open to suggestions.

see, i don’t need all this VPN server lists and for me using NordVPN or AirVPN, is just not a real VPN, it is very weak in terms of protection. dont know Proton.

I think it is time to move on to a real VPN Router, the time of Asus merlin and this scribts is ending. EU Governments will knock down like the Great CN Firewall soon, and for me your scribts and the ASUS VPN service is not really reliable. maybe OPEN WRT or directly go to a GLiNet or another VPN made router is an option. thanks for ur work

What's a real VPN to you?

Have you spent any time looking into incorporating WireGuard into VPNMON?
