Want to use MRTG to monitor per user usage

Hi all,

I use the latest build for Merlin on my RT-N66 router, and use MRTG to monitor general bandwith usage. But as I do have a lot of different WiFi users on this unit, I would like to set MRTG to monitor the bandwith usage per WiFi connected user, either by MAC or USER (doesn't really matter).

Have anybody ever got this to work?

I dunno about MRTG, but entware(-ng) has things like iptraf and iftop. vnstat might be useful.

Just monitor...
I guess there is a SNMP OID or similar for this, I just need some help to identify the different SNMP commands .

An easier approach might be to try TomatoUSB by Shibby. My RT-N66U runs http://tomato.groov.pl/download/K26RT-AC/132-EN/tomato-RT-N66U_RT-AC6x--132-AIO-64K.zip and can see graphics of each assigned IP, wired or wireless. The alternative is to get into a learning experience about SNMP or entware. That is one of the main reasons I run that firmware, as opposed to Merlin's excellent offerings.

Was hoping for some SNMP solutions as I'm pretty sure it is there; I just need to find it I do know how to work with MRTG, so starting with Entware would be starting from scratch for me...

I have no clue. Sorry...
If you research rrdtool itself, I think they present lots of low-overhead ways to monitor different things.

It is a pfSense feature. And... as impartial as I try to be, I friggen love me some graphs.

Edit: pfSense uses some not-very-respected tool to monitor gateway pings, so I would not try to use the same tool. There are a few good (& more universal) tools out there for monitoring pings. I think pfsense is migrating to a better, more widely used app with pfsense 2.3, but I could be wrong (though I never am).

Perhaps your mind drifted with gravitational waves during that 5 mins break...

I just remembered, it's called "apinger".

You could probably pipe the output of "ping" to to rrdtool, for a super simple alternative.
