When the securemode setting is enabled (which it is by default), it prevents the user from exposing SSH and the WebUI to WAN, if you check the syslog you will see;
Ah, then this is the result of me nuking the router and starting from scratch...

(I just found it at lines 300 and forward)

Thanks for explaining!

Interesting new USB Application

I noticed on my RT-AC68U, running the latest Alpha that there is a new application on the USB Applications tab called FileFlex:

From any Internet connected device, remotely access and share all your files via your ASUS router.
(Third party software with one year free trial)
https://fileflex.com/

On my AX88U running the latest Alpha, I don't see it.

Asus only enabled it on the RT-AC68U. Might possibly be still a work in progress, or something they intend to only offer for some specific SKUs.

Is this logging showing correct behaviour?
Code:
Jan 4 05:21:21 dnsmasq[21003]: query[A] www.meethue.com from 192.168.1.111
Jan 4 05:21:21 dnsmasq[21003]: forwarded www.meethue.com to 127.0.1.1
Jan 4 05:21:22 dnsmasq[21003]: forwarded www.meethue.com to 127.0.1.1
Jan 4 05:21:22 dnsmasq[21003]: validation www.meethue.com is BOGUS
Jan 4 05:21:22 dnsmasq[21003]: reply error is SERVFAIL

What is 127.0.1.1?
Here is what I get when looking up meethue.com over TLS DNS to Cloudflare. I think 127.0.1.1 is where Asuswrt-Merlin integrated stubby is listening.
Code:
Jan 5 13:33:44 dnsmasq[28545]: 5977 query[A] www.meethue.com from 2601:18f:800:b426:a995:afd:9de:1070

Yes it seems only available for the 68U
https://asus-info.fileflex.com/

Will be a paid service: ASUS RT-AC68U routers now include a 1 year single user pre-paid subscription to FileFlex ($34.95 value)

It seems to be the next insecure service provided (following the Asus smartphone app) :) Sorry Asus, but the only way to access anything behind the router is still the good old VPN :)

I'm using the 384.15_alpha1-gd9c8b621c5 build on my new AX88U router. Not sure if it's just an alpha bug, but the "b/g protection" check box is fixed and grayed out, and I have the 2.4 GHz network set to "N only."

Does the "b/g protection" do anything when the network is set to N only?

That feature is only available when "Legacy" is used as a setting.

Thanks. Then it must be a bug since it shows up and cannot be unchecked.
No. Legacy means lower than "N" thats why it becomes available. When using "N" only you don't want a/b interference, so it's selected and greyed out.
