Hi,
Its nice to tell us to open ports for our ps4's , but that website just sucks.
could you please elaborate on what ports you open and if TCP or UDP or both to the ps4 PLEASE, so we can try and stop the pain for us all.

Also are you playing the newest COD??

TrendMicro IPS/AppEngine crash causes router reboot

Ok... I was too fast with the reboot issue report.
It appears that TrendMicro IPS/AppEngine on the latest december beta FW also crashes after WAN disconnect and causes the whole router to reboot:

Log as attachment as was too long to post.

After the attached log the router simply reboots

Some helpful info for PS4 users

PS4 Connection test info: http://youtu.be/2T69Swdwo3k

PS4 Connection test info (2): http://youtu.be/e5buTLIO9xA

Thank You SOOOOOO much, Finally some great info, Thank you both and all else!!

I get the slow one in the video with the ports open that are specified, so either there are more ports or??

If I DMZ to my ps4 I get the quick video.

1. are there any more ports or one in particular or is it the router firmware??

2. is there any reason for getting hacked leaving my ps4 in DMZ?

more testing,
I shut the port's down from forwarding and shut DMZ off and I still at the moment get the fast video, so either those ports are not right or??

I will test more soon, maybe I need to power cycle the router.

EDIT:
Came home and I had the slow ps4 connection, I tried DMZ and still slow, I rebooted my cable modem and router and turned off DMZ (all with no ports forward to the PS4). Now a nice fast connection with no lag.

I thought it was my cable company but when all I do is reboot, then it is not. Will test more.

This needs to be fixed ASAP, it is already out of control!!!!

After watching the PS4 videos posted a few posts above I seen another video which I checked out: http://youtu.be/ubWK_-6QvBQ that describes finding the fastest DNS Servers as well.

If I'm recalling correctly if you use the DNS under LAN the router will cache things vs setting it under WAN.

Anyways don't want to stray too far off topic but in case this helps some with their speeds then worth posting.

I have mine specific in the WAN settings, are you talking about the LAN settings but DHCP Server tab? I don't have anything there.

edit: the one in the video has a slow response as the bad connection in the previous poster video.

I was confused regarding which was better LAN or WAN for DNS. Easy how one can forget when u barely tinker with this.

But that was new to me and just assumed it could help speed up some people's networks.

For me loading a page is slow at first then speeds up. I have 60 Mbps down via charter and an 87U using latest beta released here and have a PS4 connected via a wired bridge which is an AC68U. All devices are hard wired via cat 6e. My PS4 when testing internet typically shows 20 Mbps down and 2.5 (out of 4) up.

Sometimes lately I'll get an Internet connection icon within Battlefield 4 but only recently. Most settings are default however been tweaking DNS experimenting. If I do a speed test with an iPhone 6 plus or my hard wired iMac I get over 60Mbos down and over 4 up (speeds reflect faster then what I pay for just barely).

I don't have any special ports open and not utilizing DMZ so wondered if that may be the key and wanted to share :)

UPNP

Not going to install another firmware until they figure out the UPNP issues with the gaming systems. Too long a process. Until then, this one sits in its box.
I'm sure this will be a great router once they get their firmware issues figured out. Seems to have everything in terms of features, they just got to get them working ;)

A little help...

I know Xbox Live is having troubles... Have any of you tested your download speed and upload on your Xbox One? Does it match with what your ISP is providing you?

I currently have Comcast 100mb down and 12 up. All my devices except my Xbox One is receiving the download speed that Comcast Provides.

I have the latest firmware for the Asus RT87, I know it's buggy because it is so new but... I have tried port forwarding, enabling DMZ for the specific IP for the Xbox One, and I have enabled "Optimized for Xbox" (whatever that does in the Asus GUI).

Anyways when I run a Detailed Network Statistics I am only getting 30 meg down and upload is just fine which is 12 up. Why am I not getting at least 100meg down?! My NAT Network is currently Open. Before it was Moderate because I didn't have port forwarding enabled. Now with it enabled I get a Open network. Don't know if this is my router or just Xbox One....

I have basically updated every time a beta firmware comes out. Seems like every time a firmware comes out the download speed it going lower and upload speed is extremely fast. I've tested Merlins firmware too.

I know this might be a little off topic, but I'm concerned if this is a firmware issue or Xbox Live issue.

Any advice would be great! Thanks!

You should ask Microsoft to fix it rather. The XBox One has a bug where if it goes into sleep mode and comes out later, it does not properly re-establish its UPNP forward rules that have long expired on the router due to inactivity. This is actually a bug in the XBox One, it wouldn't surprise me if it also occurred with other consoles.

UPNP xbox

That might be true Merlin, and you'd be the guy that would know better than me for sure.
But if it's truly the Xbox, then why does my old 68u and R7500 work just fine with it but not the 87u?

I've tried a few routers in the last week, mostly because I have a fast way to sell them back out after, and this is the one I want to work, but it's struggling on the UPNP.

I'll give this new version a try and get back to this forum.

upnp work fine with beta .3754

same problems that were in the previous release in the administration page

Your R7500 might not be properly closing expired ports after a period if inactivity, so forwarded ports stay forwarded until the router reboots.

The XBox issue was confirmed by various users, and also by the miniupnpd developer.

If your issue really didn't happen with the AC68U then I'd look at an issue in your configuration. The AC68U and AC87U use the exact same version and configuration of miniupnpd. Asus has made zero change in three years to miniupnpd (it's still the old 1.4 version).

Xbox

Hmm, not sure what to say Merlin.
I haven't changed anything in my configuration other than swapping out routers. Consistently though, my 68u and 7500 work just fine, but the 87u comes back with a open nat for the first login. And then moderate or strict the second time, even if it's hours later.
Could it be that I also use a 360 and an X1 that is causing the issue with this?
I also noticed it says on the box of the 87u that there is a different hardware nat in this 87u? Or am I reading that wrong?

I'm trying to solve this too as I like this unit, but can't figure out what's up.

That "hours later" would be in-line with my explanation of the expiring forwards.

Could it be that I also use a 360 and an X1 that is causing the issue with this?

It can certainly cause issues if both are trying to forward the same ports at the same time. It all depends on the nature of those actual forwards.

Personally, I don't even understand why those console require any port forward at all, since they are supposed to be networking through a central server (PSN/MS's network).

I hate that console manufacturers are so damn cryptic in their NAT test (for me, a connection is either NATed or not NAT'ed - those "kinda, semi-half-partly NAT" reports they return make no sense to me). But then, the console crowd also cannot tell the difference between a forwarded port and an open port, so I guess it's par for the course. <shrug>

I also noticed it says on the box of the 87u that there is a different hardware nat in this 87u? Or am I reading that wrong?

The only difference in the AC87U is the addition of Flow Acceleration on top of the Cut Through Forwarding that's supported by all their previous Broadcom models. An easy way to rule out potential compatibility issues is by disabling NAT Acceleration under LAN -> Switch Control, and see how it goes.

This latest build 3754 has some single-threaded process spinning either core at 100%. Does anyone know of a way to determine which one?

I can't enable telnet to view ps, as any change to the Administration page results in "Specified time interval can not overlap" without any obvious listed time intervals on that page.
