ASUS RT-BE92U

Today mine BE92U "died" for the first time, over a month up and a restart needed to make it work again. Only power led lamp was on and all others leds were off. When looking at the log file, it dont display what happened. Instead Jan 1 suddenly showing instead. Anyone have this problem that Jan 1 suddenly shows up between the dates? Like this from Jan 25 - Jan 1 - Jan 26 - Jan 27- "router died" - Jan 1 - back to Jan 27.
Jan 27 18:07:14 router died and Jan 1 shows up in the log. After a restart of the router and log started again Jan 27 18:13:01.
What services are you running (AIProtection, Smart Connect, MLO, etc)?

It's the default date when a BE92U router boots, and is necessary because these routers have no real time clock. No date/time, no reference on boot.
So your router has been through some reboots/crashes.

Yeah that 1st of Jan in logs also made me concerned until I realized that "start NTP service" will actually get date from net.

Anyways something from today I found out series, from syslog:
Jan 27 17:17:22 BWDPI: rollback fc
Jan 27 17:17:24 kernel: SHN Release Version: 1.0.1 tuf-be3600_rc01_2024-02-15
Jan 27 17:17:24 kernel: UDB Core Version: 0.2.20
"tuf-be3600" wait what?!? Sloppy status messages programming from Asus coders it seems...

Have most all on. Router is rock stable since 18 Dec. Just first crash for me at 27 Jan.

Ahhh. Then I know what happened at 25 Jan. I have set weekly reboots on Sat and 25 Jan was Saturday. But still I don't know what caused the crash in 27 Jan. Was using the pc when it happened and logged in after reboots but can't find anything useful in the log. Just send a feedback report to ASUS inside router and see if they can find the problem.

I use this router for 1-2 weeks now, set up with separate bands, no MLO, everything works stably with my devices. I hope merlin or a fork supports it so i can run diversion on it :)

Just got mine first WiFi 7 device Galaxy S25 Ultra last week Friday. Connect it to MLO SSID and it works without any issue since. But I have only 1Gbit/1Gbit so cant test beyond that.

You can play with the Link Speed reading in the Galaxy series phones, which might be a fun thing to check out as you move from room to room. I'm also curious what happens with MLO enabled. Does the phones negotiated link speed increase with MLO enabled?

Not sure why, but Samsung moved the Link Speed reading much deeper into the wireless settings than it was before. You used to be able to get to it right off the WiFi button long press/Settings Connections, WiFi screen. With the latest Android/OneUI version, now you have to follow these steps to get there:
  1. Settings, Connections, WiFi, 3 dots top right, Intelligent WiFi.
  2. Once here, you need to repeatedly tap on Intelligent WiFi at the bottom several times to unlock a hidden menu called Connectivity Labs. Once unlocked, it will stay that way.
  3. Open Connectivity Labs, click your network name where is says connected at xyz date/time, more button, scroll down to Link Speed.
Or for a much shorter way to the link speed, you can install the free Ubiquiti WiFiMan app, click signal at the bottom.

So after I deleted my test MLO network, I forgot to disable MLO. I saw a very slow memory used increase up to 89% before I discovered it.

After disabling MLO and power cycling a couple days ago, memory used has been steady in the mid 70’s.

My assumption is that there is a flaw in the MLO code that is not releasing memory correctly. So I will leave it off until we get a fix. I really don’t need it yet as my internet connection is 1gig.

I know about Intelligent wifi. Tested with both Intelligent wifi and WiFiman you suggested. Get similiar results on both. Closest to router I get link speed around 4500/4800Mbit, moving to balcony with 3 concrete walls between furthest point it dropped to around 288/1152Mbit. It stayed on 6Ghz all the time. Tried to switch different SSID I had, 5Ghz 6Ghz and MLO. But happened 1 time S25U switched between 5Ghz and 2,4Ghz and back to 6Ghz if mover closer to the router. I live in 62 sq apartment with concrete walls. Overall I get higher link speed with MLO than 5Ghz and 6 Ghz.
Closest to router Ch5 35dbm 4500/4800Mbit. Furthest point Ch5 82dbm 288/1152Mbit.

I just installed this router 3 days ago. Until now it has performed very well with no hiccups at all. Fast and smooth. I have used Asus routers for 20 years and this is not disappointing. I only hope that it will get Merlin support at some point - all my previous routers were supported:-)

Glad to see it’s good so far.
I’m running an automated weekly reboot to deal with the memory consumption issues we have been experiencing with this device.
My AX92 never got Merlin. I had it on my old AC88, so I miss some of the flexibility Merlin brings. I don’t know for sure, but I think the firmware partition is too small for Merlin.

Does anybody know what hardware (including SoC) BE92U is using? Is it Broadcom-based, which increases likelihood of future Merlin support?

Yesterday I lost internet connection, all the leds shows normal and logged in to see at system logg. It display fifo_bitmap_by_startidx and then 2 lines with just 0000000. Anyone know what it means? Restart of the router and all went back to normal.
It shows these lines until router restarted.

RIP I paid MSRP at best buy 299 for this a while back. With all the bugs and such this router initially had I should have waited.
the reviews on Amazon are not that great...

My BE92 started randomly rebooting one or more times a day. It has the latest firmware and did not do this for the first few weeks. I am not running any services but I did enable and IOT net. Is anyone else seeing this kind of instability? Any solution, or should I contact support.

Also the log is full of messages about "thermal thermal_zone0: Failed to get temperature" and similar. I got the impression for reading this thread that this is a common occurrence.

IoT here, along with 2, 5, 6Ghz networks. No MLO, no Smart Connect, no Asus services. Running stable and under 65 percent memory use.

Okay thanks! I think I will contact Asus support. Whenever I check the uptime it is between 0 and 12 hours. It never goes longer without rebooting. This morning it rebooted in the middle of a meeting, which it totally unacceptable.

I would just return if you can and exchange right away. If you are on latest firmware, are running with minimal config/services, and it's still rebooting, it's got be be a problem with the unit.
