Merlin when you released the first firmware after ASUS correcting issue started to work like ASUS official, but then you have done is rolled back for N66u wireless drivers(as i remember 3.0.0.4.372.30 (5-July-2013)) and then started these lags that has been continued ever since. All my cables is fine. On official firmware i not have this issue. It's sad really ... :(:(:( These lags/pings may not appear immediately but after router work enough.

The driver was only rolled back for the RT-N66U. You have an RT-AC66U. Two completely different things.

Beside, the issue wasn't even with the drivers, but with the kernel.

And once again, I cannot reproduce the issue, and no one else so far either. The issue is definitely not with the FW.

I installed the beta on my AC56U - upgrading from 374.32.

The upgrade went fine but my 802.11g performance was odd, so I went back to 374.32 and am not getting the same issue.

I was in a web browser on a tablet going through multiple pages in a forum. about every 4th page, the browser would become unresponsive. If I opened a new tab and tried a different site, I couldn't get to any other site either. It behaved like the internet connection was down or I couldn't communicate with the router over 802.11g. Usually after 20-40 seconds it would start working again. When I went back to 374.32, I didn't have the problem the rest of the day.

Do I need to nvram the router after upgrading from 374.32 to 374.33b?

That shouldn't be necessary (I can't remember the last time I did a factory default reset on my own RT-AC56U, which also serves as my main router at home).

One thing I would try however is to delete the wireless profile on your computer, and recreate it. Also recheck your wireless settings on the router. For instance, it's possible that you have it set to Auto channel, and that the newer FW isn't as efficient at chosing a channel. I use a fixed channel personally.

Also, check the router's Uptime on the System Log page to see if it had crashed and rebooted - which could explain the interruptions.

Merlin:

Deleting and readding the wireless profile on my tablet didn't make a difference - and I also am set to static channel 11.

I'll try loading it again and see what happens to the router uptime.

so...I get my Asus AC56U tomorrow....going to give this AC wifi a try...see if it's really is any better than N300.....I am replacing my N56U, which has been a beast with Padavan custom firmware.

I just wanted to check....the current Asus stock firmware posted on 9/3 for the AC56U is 3.0.0.4.374.134....and the current version of this firmware ends in 33...so....is the stock one newer?

I was also wondering what kind of file transfer speeds are on this router....with my current N56U....my standard 1gb test video file transfers over gigabit wire to and from my file server system at about 110-113MB's...over 5ghz N wifi (intel AC7260 laptop card) its 20-24MB's. (using Windows 8)

No. The last digit is specific to the firmware. This is the 33rd release of my custom firmware, while it's Asus's 134th build of their 374 firmware. Please view the README to determine on which Asus source code mine was based.

I'd be agree with you if asus firmware have been the same issue. Ok. If you can't reproduce the issue i'll be wait for a miracle or something like rebase your firmware on another asus version.

And BTW you really should be a lot friendlier and more descriptive in how your device is configured and such...

Yes people should remember he does this for free, you are not obligated or encouraged to use it (especially ones labeled beta or experimental), and that bugs, questions & issues should be noted in a way that doesn't treat Merlin like a terrible restaurant that you're reviewing on Yelp.

Though I think there might be some language barrier issues here, but erring on the side of pleasantness is always the way to go. ;)

Good idea. From what I recall in the logs, it would log the first .jpg it failed on. I can move folders out of the index path and see if it is a photo or resource issue.

Now, I had used Entware to install the older 1.0.2? version of minidlna (opkg install minidlna). Do you think just an opkg remove will revert back to the newer beta version of minidlna? What launches minidlna during startup?

Ok, I moved one of the subdirectories from the Photos dir. Minidlna version 1.1.0 ran out of memory on another directory/photo. So, the problem isn't a particular .jpg file, rather the number of files/.jpgs' it has processed before the long line of malloc failures.

So, it does appear that the new thumbnail generation code in 1.1.0 needs some more work ;-)

For now, I will run the older minidlna 1.0.25. This runs fine.

Thanks

Can you see if perhaps a particular jpeg triggering the issue has a very high resolution, for example? IT might not be a particular jpeg, but jpegs that fit a certain critera that's triggering it.

One way to know for sure - try having the router only scan a directory containing two or three of those files that causes the issue to see if it's specific to these files, or just something happening after a bunch of files have been processed (which could indicate a memory leak, for instance).

Ok, minidlna 1.0.25 finished and indexed everything fine. So, taking your request, I created a much smaller Photos directory with just a single folder (2007) that contained 8083 files. This was the folder that caused 1.1.0 to begin printing malloc failures.
Did a killall minidlna and restated using the 1.1.0 binary.

1.1.0 finished fine. Made it through the /Photos/2007 folder without a problem. For reference, my normal /Photos directory contains 55491 files (I take lots of photos ;-)

So, sounds like a memory leak of some form.

Ok, thanks. Once I get the newest Asus code I will see if they made any change over the code I'm currently using. If not, I'll try to see if I can figure out the issue in the new code. Could also be that the thumbnail database gets stored in RAM instead of on disk, quickly running out of RAM once it starts filling up (since you have a rather large number of photos).

So..i flashed the current stock firmware to my AC56U....and now the 2.4ghz isn't showing up...

EDIT: nevermind...i some how had show ssid set to no.....derp

anyway....so this firmware is the same as the official Asus firmware then..just with a couple tweaks....why the Sys info page is not included in stock firmware is beyond me....there is no way to check cpu and ram usage with stock.

Also, I noticed that the Asus mentioned in their interview video on newegg that the AC56U cpu is 1ghz, and that the higher model soon to come out is 800mhz....but the AC56U says its @800 on the sys info page....anyway to set it to 1ghz.

My SGS3 wont connect to the 5ghz wifi...it gives "authentication failure" Invalid password...but I am entering in the correct password.

Wrong language

On the Professional tab for wireless...there is"Optimizar la agregación AMPDU" everything else is in English...

Yes, this is a known issue in the original firmware (the string was somehow copy/pasted in spanish inside the english dict file). I already fixed it on my development code.

That was probably an error during their interview, or the interview was done before the product was officially launched. The default clock is definitely 800 MHz.

If you want to fiddle with it, see the thread about overclocking on this forum.

currently testing aicloud 2.0 which is a big step up I must say from the original.... One problem though and I hope it will be fixed is it does not want to connect to the os x 10.9 beta that is using samba2. I will work on it some more and if anybody else has some luck let me know. Otherwise works great with usb flash drive /hard drive.

Did you "forget" the network on your android? Removing wireless profiles is recommended as a basic troubleshooting step and a preventative measure when changing routers/firmware. You can read Merlin's sticky for basic troubleshooting steps.

Yes i have cleared the profile...but I have yet to get the phone to authenticate and connect once with the new network....keeps saying wrong password....my laptop connects fine

Another issue to report....When I go to ivp6 log page(Main_IPV6Status_Content.asp) the page timeout and then I can't get any response from the router web config after that...have to reboot router.

Sometimes...the pages only partially load or are messed up...refreshing page fixes it....yes..i did clear browser cache...still does it regardless.

Slow lan speed

I am only getting about 42MB's wire transfer speed with this firmware. I flash back to stock and I get 90 -100MB's.

So far...not to impressed with the AC56U....true...the wifi ac is about 10-20MB's (downlink)faster than my N56U..but the N56U gave me constant speeds both wired and wireless...this AC...fluctuates a lot..and not sure what the the deal is here with my issue of low lan speed.
