RT-N66U early model that needed to boot update.

Same experience was with the .38 release.

5 ghz clients which do connect with 372.31 or older versions will not connect IF WPA2 Enabled.

No security, all clients connect.

Talking iPHONE 5 and Broadcom dual mode chipset in laptop.

WPA2 2.4ghz channel works fine for all clients.

Roll back to 372.31, every client connects just fine on all channels with WPA2.

Did full resets and removed wireless accounts on clients and reconnected, re-entered WPA2 key, etc.

Wish it worked of course.

You should start a new thread on your issue. I have ipad mini non retina which uses the same Murata wifi SoC module (consisting of Broadcom BCM4334 etc..) as iphone 5 and don't have any problem with .38 or .39 with either the regular .39 version or .39 em version. I also have Broadcom 2x2:2 wireless adapters on computers and they don't have any problem either.

The fact that you cannot update the firmware without going in to recovery mode possibly suggests some procedural issue to your update. I have RT-N66U ver. B1 and don't have any problem updating firmware.

Try the universal basic troubleshooting steps in link below. They fix a wide variety of problems. Don't do a 30-30-30 reset. Just do a regular plain jane factory reset by pressing and holding the reset button for more than 5 seconds.

What would be the best way to test it?

Edit:
Well, I typed "porn" using Google and indeed nothing is stopped by Norton.
I now switched to Yandex Family and the first few hits on Google are stopped. Great!

So, Norton doesn't work here as well.

same, it let me straight into filth.

Just curious....but what happens if you disable ipv6 on router? Does norton connect safe work then?

Not sure if it is just crap filtering or not working at all. I'll add the dns servers to the router directly tomorrow and give it a whirl. OpenDNS works very well using DDNS a bit restrictive maybe but you can tailor it to your needs.

Happy Camper

Setup like the picture shows and modem is Zoom 5341J.

Router CFE upgraded to 1.0.1.3 but I don't think that should matter.

Thanks! I’m new to a lot of this but you showed me how to get IPv6 working. I tested it and it is working at a 100%. I put Merlin’s 39 Firmware on my AC68U yesterday and I’ve been tweaking it out today. Thanks once again to Merlin & all you guys and gals for educating me to the ways of networking and Router configuration. Merlin has made a great router almost perfect.:)

Norton DNS does work for porn, I tested it. I imagine their DNS blacklist can't possibly contain all active sites. Its like virus definitions, probably always updating the list.

i have never had ipv6 enabled never had a problem. i dont use norton connect safe though.

I have an interesting DNS issue after upgrading to .39 from .35.4. My ddns hostname no longer resolves inside my network

I'll use myk.net in place of my actual domain for the examples below:

my DDNS is home.myk.net
my DHCP domain is home.myk.net, so internal network machines show up as laptop.home.myk.net, etc

I access my webcam with http://home.myk.net which previously worked inside and outside the network, but no longer does inside (still works fine outside)

any way to get this to start resolving again without either changing my dhcp domain or losing the ability to resolve internal hostnames (by forwarding ALL local domain names)

thanks

First let me say i have had NO issues with ipv6 until the 38 build as stated. When i flashed the 38_1em and 38_2em builds my v6 was fine for a day or two then the router would lose its v6 address confirmed by checking the router ui ipv6 tab the address was gone a reboot would set things right again only to have the same thing a day or two later.

Reverting back to 374_35_4-sdk5 and v6 was working great again no loss of address ever. I was hoping and still am that this build 39_0-em would fix this issue, you say it might not i guess in a day or so i will know for sure.

I dont use my router for more then routing no usb no vpn ect.. I am very framiliar flashing firmware and i know how to set up v6 so this is not a novice issue here rather a real problem i have had with these latest builds on my RT-N66U. Any advice you have would be great. Wanted to add the system log says nothing when this happens and the public ip is what it loses.

It's understandable it started with .38. Asus made a lot of changes to IPv6 in the releases that were merged into .38. It's odd that you were able to get an IPv6 WAN address at all, due to an Asus bug you shouldn't have. This is fixed in .39.

I have just upgraded to the latest 3.0.0.4.374.39 firmware. For some reason my drive sizes are shown incorrectly. I attached a screenshot...I did a simple hard reboot after the upgrade. I was already on SDK6 build before this upgrade so no factory reset was done...

Will doing this upgrade wipe my Entware Transmission setup?

Seems like it:

Code:
asus@RT-N66U:/# cd opt
-sh: cd: can't cd to opt
asus@RT-N66U:/#

DNS filtering does not prevent search results from showing up. It prevents from accessing sites that are specifically blocked by Norton. I just tested with www.playboy.com, and Norton ConnetSafe did block it. So, it's working properly.

This is a bug in Asus's recent firmware, since people apparently experienced the same issue with Asus's firmware. Probably got broken when they added the USB hub support (which required them to overhaul a lot of the USB handling code).

Make sure your jffs startup scripts didn't get wiped. As written on the FW upgrade page, the JFFS content is not guaranteed to survive a firmware flash, especially on the RT-N66U with its dynamically allocated jffs.

Otherwise, Entware shouldn't be affected by a firmware upgrade. I never lost Entware functionality on my test devices that have it configured.

"The fact that you cannot update the firmware without going in to recovery mode"

Huh?

Didn't ever say that. Haven't needed to update the firmware in recovery mode since going to Toastman's and then back to RMerlin's.

I've done full reset to wipe out any previous nvram settings. Said nothing about recovery mode.

"You should start a new thread on your issue"

Why would I start a new thread when I'm trying this firmware version?

"B1"

Did that version need the cfe boot update process early on with the 64K issue?

My experience has been 100% consistent with each version past 372.31. I connect with all clients, 2x2 Broadcom and Atheros with .39 version. They connect on the 2.4ghz channel and do so well even at 40mhz. All very solid connections.

Only issue is WPA and 5ghz.
