I see a few reports of wireless performance drops in AC66U. Try doing a factory default reset in case Asus made some low-level changes to the wireless driver of that specific router, and also deleting and recreating your wireless profile on the client.

Also try keeping beamforming disabled to see if it makes any difference.

Factory rest before, and after flashing this new firmware? Or just after

In Wireless Log you no longer see any info for 5Ghz band, as if nothing is connected to the router.

Lacks wifi options in Repeater Mode.

Wifi singal on 2.4Ghz band is weaker.

edit;

Wifi signal on 2,4ghz band is fine now. In repeater mode, there is lack of settings for wifi, so you have to manually type in Advanced_Wireless_Content.asp in address bar to get to basic wifi settings. Changed necessary wifi settings and signal is fine now.

Professional tab lacks wifi options for both bands in Repeater Mode.

I tested "DNS filtering" and it's working great.
With .39_0-em I could not get Norton working, that's now fine as well.
It would be nice to mention, on the routers "DNS filtering" tab page, if you use "Global Filter Mode", you lose local host name resolution.

I don't want to clutter the webui with documentation. That's specified in the included README.

Oh, forgot to ask about DNS Filtering, I'm not sure if I understand this correctly:

"None" will disable/bypass the filter, and "Router" will force clients to use the DNS provided by the router's DHCP server (or, the router itself if it's not defined).

Will "None" and "Router" both use the DNS configured on the WAN page?
I'm not sure what the difference is between the two.

With "router", clients will use the DNS server from the router's WAN settings, and will not be able to bypass it - they will be forced to use it.

With "none", clients will use the DNS server from the router's WAN settings, but they will also be able to specify their own DNS servers in their local network configuration.

Always after, so it will use whichever default values are specific to the new firmware you just flashed. There is no reason to do one before flashing.

Works for me. Make sure your 5 GHz band is enabled.

Also if you are using repeater mode, then it's probably normal since the repeater can only repeat one band, not both.

Lacks wifi options in Repeater Mode.

This has always been the case. Asus removes this page from repeater mode since many of the settings on that page don't apply to Repeater mode, and having to manually select which setting to display and which not to would make the webui code very messy.

Just a question on 374.40 Beta 1 the wifi driver version is
6.30 RC163.2002
wl0: Feb 12 2014 16:28:07 version 6.30.163.2002 (r382208)

Whats the version info (wl ver, or from the webgui) for the RT-AC66u on .39?

Two routers are connected to each other via 5Ghz band. So Wifi Log should show RSSI and TX/RX connections, but it doesnt on Repeater Mode router on 5Ghz band.
2.4Ghz wifi log works fine.

Wifi Log works fine when router in Default Mode.

I was able get to basic wifi settings and make needed changes. But Professional settings are all gone. Hopefully it copies settings from main router.

I need some help. I have a 1TB hard drive attached to router USB port which I use for backups & as a DLNA server. It has worked very well while sharing w/o an account. If I change to share with an account, the share drive is no longer visible on the network. I must need to take some additional steps / make some additional settings that I must not know of.

I am assuming you are saying you can't see the network shares in Windows. The network shares shows up in Windows differently when you are using Samba security and not. When you are not using Samba security each partition on your hard drive will show up as a network share. When you are using Samba security each top level directory within each partition will show up as a network share. So if you do not have a top level directory, that partition will not show up at all in Windows. Don't know your file structure. But wanted to point this out hoping it will help :)

The version number doesn't tell the whole story. This is the version of the code Broadcom provided to Asus. After that, Asus can make additional changes, which won't cause the version number to change, only the date string will be different.

What's the wireless signal like?

I don't have a precise measurement but I think perhaps the signal downstairs on my iPad is a bar stronger than before (on 2.4 Ghz).

This is comparing 374.40 beta 1 to previous versions:
3.0.0.4.220.18b - in use for the past year or so
3.0.0.4.374.39 - in use for the past week

Regulation mode ---setting to 11d "does not stick" on 2.4g

Route stil does not reboot/boot properly after wifi changes..
power on/off still needed .. (it works with ...39)

I can't reproduce either of these problems. Try a factory default reset and manually reconfiguring your router.

what region is yours locked to ?

I think the issue is with EU region not being tested hence my issues with it being locked on for the 5ghz radio.

The real question is everything is working fine for me (some small cosmetic issues) but should i do a factory reset on my 66U?

For now i am saying NO since everything is good.

I think the last version was July 2013, so this is a newer version of the driver what changed who knows.

1st time flashing to merlinbuild on AC56U

came from 4422 to this beta1

I can't find traffic monitor by device...the dropdown menu only shows global nothing per ip or device.

Was the feature removed?

Thx, I tested it by setting google dns on my laptop NIC.
If set to "router" it still works with OpenDNS because that's configured on my router. (WAN page.)
If set to "none" my laptop works with google dns on the NIC.

Also "router" and "none" keeps local host name resolution working. (great.)
(If you leave NIC dns on auto.)

How did you pull that off??
What's the magic behind "router"?

Yes is locked to "ON" for 5g and "off" for 2.4 (EU) .. And change is not remembered...

See the README on how to enable and configure that feature.

"router" has an iptables rule that redirects all DNS queries to the router itself.
