I'd be surprised if the problem had been fixed since Beta1 uses all the latest code from Asus's 4561 which was exhibiting the issue, but still keep us informed how it turns out, just in case Hell hath frozen over. :)

No surprise, the 68U rebooted within the hour. Back to Alpha 4 on this one but the 66U's have not rebooted so I'll leave them on Beta 1

I am pretty confident that its not intermittent. I have spent many hours trouble shooting this. I can guarantee you that this the only RMerlin f/w that allowed a "client status" refresh on my setup. All asus f/w up to 3.0.0.4.374.4422 would also allow a "client status refresh" but any version after and including 3.0.0.4.374.4422 would not.

Correction!!! RMerlin is correct again I just performed router reboot and I am NO longer able to refresh the client list. but what I did notice is the little icon beside the the windows home server 2011 client has been a man in suit (other device)

since reboot it is a pc with a remote (PC)

. This is the only reboot I have done since I upgraded to 374.40_beta1 17 hours ago. I have been fine tuning settings/features and have refreshed client all day long. The pc running windows server 2011 has been left as is, along with all other clients. I even reset router using reset button and GUI reset and restored my save settings half way through the day and still functioned properly. The client list refreshed without fail until the router reboot. I just don't understand!

Send me a PM with the content of the following file:

Code:
/var/lib/misc/dnsmasq.leases

I want to see if there's anything in that file that might cause Networkmap to get stuck.

signal strengh (AC66U

Oki, I have now gone back to .39 and it is a big difference. on my desktop compyter 10 meter away the signal quality goes from 60 to 100 percent same with sgs3 on same position. If i go to my ground floor in my building i get a signal quality increase by 5.
In dbm measures i go from -65 (.40beta1) to -43 (.39) 10 meters away from router.

There is defenetly somthing with the driver between .40beta1 and .39.

I hope you can make a beta of .40 with the driver from .39.
All other features that i use in .40 seems stable.

Still, big thanks and if there is any details you need please Contact me.

Router in use AC66U.

If Asus tweaked the driver for the AC66u in the most recent releases it would be in the release notes. I'll test further today but I'm really not seeing this on my AC66u.

infamy, are you doing a proper and full reset (both router and clients) between versions?

Router:

Remove all USB devices, remove all but the WAN and Ethernet cable going to the laptop or computer that will be doing the setup.

Flash/upgrade the firmware to test.

Clear nvram. Do a manual power cycle (do not reboot via the gui).

Manually enter any settings required. Do not use a saved config file.

Test.

Yes I have used both nvram clearing and factory reset and none worked. i have verified signal strengh without adding my config file. perhaps there are other factors causing thiss but then again i'm not alone if you look in channel.

This is a known issue in Asus's code. I think it was posted a couple of times already, but here is it again:

Go to the FTP page, enable sharing without an account, and switch back to sharing with an account. That will force the flag to be cleared.

I needed to do this on both "Network Place(Samba) Share / Cloud Disk" and "FTP Share" tabs, for the exclamation mark to go away.

I tested "DNS filtering" and it's working great.
With .39_0-em I could not get Norton working, that's now fine as well.
It would be nice to mention, on the routers "DNS filtering" tab page, if you use "Global Filter Mode", you lose local host name resolution.

WiFi signal strenght and throughput is the same compared to .39_0-em

Great work! Thx.

If anything weird pops up, I'll let you know.

Oh, forgot to ask about DNS Filtering, I'm not sure if I understand this correctly:

"None" will disable/bypass the filter, and "Router" will force clients to use the DNS provided by the router's DHCP server (or, the router itself if it's not defined).

Will "None" and "Router" both use the DNS configured on the WAN page?
I'm not sure what the difference is between the two.

Depending in how large the file is, one way is to go to Tools > Run Cmd and type:

Code:
cat /var/lib/misc/dnsmasq.leases

Hit the button that says Refresh.

Then copy and paste the contents in the field below.

How To Samba Server Visable on Network w/ New Security

I have an RT-N66U which upgraded from 374.39em to 374.40Beta1. Internet was noticeably slower. I re-flashed going thru clear NVRAM, power cycle & manual inputs. All seems to be well, internet back to being quite snappy.

I need some help. I have a 1TB hard drive attached to router USB port which I use for backups & as a DLNA server. It has worked very well while sharing w/o an account. If I change to share with an account, the share drive is no longer visible on the network. I must need to take some additional steps / make some additional settings that I must not know of.

Another item I noticed is that none of the pop ups windows are coming from the "?" marks or the green icons at the top of the GUI.

Blinking Exclamation mark

Thanx to you Merlin for an excellent uplift to the standard code.

Im now running your 40. Beta 1 on my AC68R.

The exclamation mark keeps blinking - even though i have disabled FTP and doesn't have any media connected for sharing to my router.

Is this normal behavior?

is there anything I can do to make my usb3 drive mount wihtout having to pull it out the usb port and shove it back in ?

any kind of reboot and I can kiss it goodbye until i replug it.

better second time

Hmm

I gave .40beta1 Another shot and for some reason i got better signal again even on .40. Same surrounding networks and same installation method. Bit weird but it seems better now.

I hope it remains.

Then again it is just a beta...

Just to make sure. Is this only with the 40 beta FW?

no it does is on 39 as well. 90% of the time it was fine on my n66u.

100% failure rate on the 68u
