I am having exactly the same problem, however only my 2.4 GHz WiFi connected machine shows it. Both are using the same version of Firefox (24.4.0) and Windows 7. The problem started after loading 374.40. Any suggestions?

As stated many times now this was a April fools prank that Merlin set up to happen with the 40 firmware. There is nothing wrong with your router it was just a harmless prank. It should have fixed itself as of today.

Please specify which router model you have, and how your IPTV is configured.

One generic thing to try is to disable NAT acceleration under LAN -> Switch Control.

I know there are issues with IGMP snooping in recent firmware releases, unfortunately that part is closed source, so I have no idea if Asus changed anything in that code.

I have RT-N66U. IPTV is configured correctly, same like before update.
Enabled multicast routing (IGMP Proxy)
Enable efficient multicast forwarding (IGMP Snooping)
Disabled IGMP Snooping
Auto Multicast Rate(Mbps)

Tried to turn off NAT acceleration but it didn't help. Maybe you can recommend other firmware version on old base because i don't remember what i had.

Hi,

It's possible set the DDNS making sure that the router checks the external ip, not the ip of the router that provides the connection?
The factory firmware of netgear does, and also the tomato.
It seems strange that this was not expected.
Definitely something I'm wrong.

Thanks

Job

Merlin can you make this?

Merlin can you make this?

Changing the way the WAN IP is retrieved for DDNS is not planned at this time, as it would require too many architectural changes.

um where do we report bugs?

I have 374.40 installed on a RT-AC66U

SSH is enabled and the Allow SSH access from the WAN is set to NO.

However i can still SSH in from the WAN,

I picked it up because my log is being spammed with connection attempts that are failing for nonexistant user

How are you testing that you can SSH in?

Are you clearing your cache in the browser you're using?

I'm SSH from cli on a solaris server located at my work, to my router located at home via the internet.

ssh admin@#####.no-ip.biz
admin@######.no-ip.biz's password:
ASUSWRT-Merlin RT-AC66U_3.0.0.4 Fri Mar 7 01:35:36 UTC 2014
admin@RT-AC66U:/tmp/home/root#

After disabling the SSH client i get this which is what i expected in the first place.
> ssh admin@######.no-ip.biz
ssh: connect to host ######.no-ip.biz port 22: Connection refused

browser caches have absolutely nothing to do with SSH, However now that you have mentioned it i might check to see if web access is also allowed via WAN

telnet #######.no-ip.biz 8443
Trying 114.76.30.10...
Connected to #######.no-ip.biz.
Escape character is '^]'.

Connection closed by foreign host.

GET / fails but it should not even open a connection

Make sure both the firewall and NAT are enabled on the router, and that it is configured in Router mode. The SSH port definitely does not get open unless access from WAN is enabled, you have something else bypassing that.

What would cause the traffic monitor to still report exaggerated data usage after the 374.40 install (and I cleared ram prior when I installed this version)? I am sure I read that this had been corrected, so I'm thinking something on my end.

Also, since going to merlin wrt none of my other computers pick up the 5GHz radio any longer. It's broadcasting, but I can't pick it up. Any ideas?

NAT is enabled and it is in router mode, however firewall is disabled.

It should not be dependant on the firewall being enabled, the switch should be configured via dropbear on which interfaces it listens on.

The same goes for httpd, you configure which interfaces the process listens on to exclude eth1 (WAN)

Concerns:
RT-AC68U router
FW:
RT-AC68U_3.0.0.4_374.40_alpha4
RT-AC68U_3.0.0.4_374.40_beta3

Over the course of several weeks I noticed that after 6-10 days I lose my connection with the WAN (Internet). No DNS or routing is possible. The LAN remains functional. I can log into the router without any trouble. Everything in the Web UI appears to be normal.

In order to restore my connection I have to power off the router. A simple reboot will not do the job.

My router seems to stay online longer with alpha4 than beta3. Both appear to suffer from the same fate though. Nothing to be seen in the regular Sytem log.

In comparison 3.0.0.4.374.39 stays online (basically) forever.

This is the first time that i have flashed my n66u with Merlin's firmware (374.40) and i must say Hats Off! to Merlin. Initially when i bought this router its performance in terms of range was simply mind boggling...i could access the net even outside my house on my wifi smartphone ie. about 70-80 feets which included several hurdles such as walls, 2.4ghz equipments etc. but after updating the router to the latest official Asus firmware the range (2.4ghz) of the router took a serious hit.

For example when i had bought the router i used to easily get a solid link speed of around 243-300 mbps on 40mhz. but with all subsequent updates the link speed kept on degrading. when i did the recent most update from Asus i was taken aback as the link speed was permanently stuck between 13-40 mbps !! let me tell you that the router and the computer are kept at exactly the same place as when they were kept when i had initially bought this router. nothing has changed EXCEPT the official firmware.

Thanks to Merlin for bringing the Awesomeness of this router back again! I am now getting a stable link of 216-243 mbps. sometimes it does dip to 162 mbps but nevertheless it is atleast better than 13-40 mbps!

but i wonder why the official firmware from Asus is disturbing / limiting the range of this powerhouse?? they should really do something or get in touch with Merlin to fix the range issues which have crept in after recent firmware updates.

Regards

For best results, try to clear NVRAM and manually re-enter your settings...I know it is tedious, but it is know to help in many cases...

The wireless driver is exactly the same as Asus's 374_4561, so expect the same stability (or unstability, tho in general the AC56 seems fairly reliable) as Asus's stock FW.

The AC56U might have a slightly shorter range however due to its internal antennas, so it will depend on your environment.

Thanks Merlin! I appreciate the quick response! :)

I'm still leery about recommending this router though, as I am still seeing recent posts complaining about the 2.4GHZ issue, and no 'official' fix.

Am I seeing a vocal minority complaining, while the rest of the ac56u owners are not having disconnect issues?

Thanks for any input folks!

If you disable the firewall, then you will flush iptables, and it can create a lot of odd issues. There should be no reason to disable the firewall, especially with a device fronting the Internet.

These types of issues are most commonly caused by a modem or ISP issue. Try power cycling the modem instead of the router and see what happens.

I can't tell you the details, but they did get in touch with me. Which is why the range is much improved in my recent builds, as they provided me with a special driver that can't be used in the official firmware for various reasons.

dropbear is run by with the following params "dropbear -p 22 -j -k" its not set on the interface, so therefore merlin must have put in a firewall rule to block it from the wan port.

It would have to be run with -p [address:]port option, and if you are running it on the wan, every time you got a new IP it would have to restart. I would just run the firewall, otherwise disable running ssh from the gui and setup a script to start it manually with the -p option for the internal IP address.

To be honest, if you check the forums about Netgear, DLink, TP-Link or Linksys, every router has people complaining about wifi issues. Wifi is simply not a very stable or reliable technologies and will be heavily dependent on one's environment.

It's not something specific to Asus's routers.
