I have AX88U with Google home mini, Amazon Echo Plus, Amazon Echo (4. gen) and it's working perfectly fine.


Thanks guys....I'll keep working on it. I have 3 speakers and none connect. But have 32 other devices which connected fine which made me wonder
 
Wifi devices showing up as Wired on the client list?

AX88u HW1.1 with 2 AC5000 (Aimesh nodes) all Beta 3, anyone else notice that certain WiFi connected devices often show as Wired?

In this case I was able to take a screen shot of my two Fitbit devices on 2.4Ghz showing up as Wired. Both via browser and the mobile app. Haven't noticed if it happens with devices on 5Ghz, something I'll be on the lookout for... I doubled checked the devices/MACADDRs and all our Fitbit's conect wirelessly - just being doubly sure...

Fun Fact: I didn't know that in the mobile app I could take a picture, or add a picture from the album (screen grab) to represent the icon associated with a connected device.
Guess what we'll be doing for the next couple of hours... ;)

How are the current betas running on the AX86U fellas ? Still lots of stability or other issues that needs to be solved ?
Or is the current beta running so well that a final release would be rather close .. as in a few weeks before final version .

Main concerns on the AX86U for me are : link aggregation stability , PPPOE stability , overall router speed .

@RMerlin I see you merged in 41535, so I'm guessing that GPL will also encrypt the NVRAM on the AC68U like it does on the official beta and have the same warning they posted?

And the image seems to be saved to the router! Oh joy... no more searching for custom icons.

Saved to jffs partition I believe, so all good for quite a while (unless you forget about than when the occasional firmware upgrade requests a format of that partition, and you don't have a backup).
 
Hi

I'm running beta3 on my AX86u currently unable to now connect my Google Home speakers. Either on 2Ghz or 5Ghz wireless

I did have problems with an older Windows 7 laptop which is a works device where it couldn't see any SSID and this was resolved by disabling the AX mode below

But the Google speaker hasn't got this problem as it can see both SSID 2Ghz and 5Ghz but just doesn't pair

Also my lg speaker and soundbar are now showing in the of speaker app.
 
My Withings Thermo is no longer syncing since Christmas (around the time I installed Beta 2).

How can I check whether the router is causing uploads to fail?

I use NextDNS and see that a request is being made to sct01-ws.withings.net (which is not blocked), but the data don't end up at Withings or the iPhone App.
 
WPA2 is trivially easy to crack.
My understanding is that the best you can do is to retrieve a PMKID and try to brute-force the hash. Good luck with that for any even remotely capable passwords. Even with only 12 alpha-numeric characters being attacked by a machine capable of trying 10 billion passphrases per second it's going to take around 5,000 years give or take.

A much more credible threat scenario is that Google/Apple - who have your SSID and password thanks to any Android or Apple device that ever connected to your WiFI - leak your info.

You don't want to enable smart connect as causes lots of problems I heard. You want to setup separate 2.4 and 5Ghz networks rather than the horrible smart mode

When I reset the Google Home device then a new setup its not able to see the 5Ghz wifi and only the 2.4Ghz which is the problem. On my older AC68u it was using 5Ghz wifi but when using the AX86u unless you disable the 802.11ax/wifi 6 mode it doesn't work

So in 2.4 I've disabled it and all works well. But should I disable it on the 5Ghz as surely that's the only point of the device its a wifi 6 and why disable it ?????? Doesn't make sense

RT-AX58U 386.1 beta 3 clean install:

After a restart (scheduled weekly) some devices are getting incorrect 192.168.50.49 DNS address via DHCP and lose network connectivity.

Basic setup, AIProtection, Diversion, DoT to 9.9.9.9 and DNS Privacy (Router).

I think it might be caused by DHCP/DNS issue, some devices are getting incorrect 192.168.50.49 DNS address via DHCP (instead of 192.168.50.1) and lose internet connectivity (still connected to WiFi but can't access internet due to DNS issue).

Rebooting the affected device or changing the WiFi setting on the router that'll cause it to fully reconnect (like 20MHz to 20/40MHz channel width) and get the correct DNS resolves it (until next router update/restart).

Not sure what problems you are facing, SmartConnect has been tremendous for me. It did take a bit for me to tune it, but has been stable for over a year now.

I tuned smart connect to stay on 5GHz till signal drops below -75dBm, and go back to 5GHz when 2.4GHz is stronger than -55dBm. Keep it simple and it will work well for you.

I tuned smart connect to stay on 5GHz till signal drops below -75dBm, and go back to 5GHz when 2.4GHz is stronger than -55dBm. Keep it simple and it will work well for you.

my battery powered devices seem to last longer this way, because they're not trying to decide which frequency band is better.
Perhaps that means I haven't put enough time into tuning the Smart Connect settings. if you're into that, by all means, go for it. But for me, if I'm out of range of the 5GHz, switching over to the 2.4 to try to catch a better connection isn't a big deal.

You will not have a problem using 2 separate SSID. If you configure a device to use 5Ghz its not going to waste battery trying to connect to a 2.4Ghz which it doesn't know about, so doesn't waste any more battery

I mostly use 5Ghz here at home but have 2 or 3 old devices [ Raspberry PI Zero W ] which run camera systems and only use 2.4Ghz, so their using that and everything else is 5Ghz

I now have a new PC with a AX wireless card and iPhone 12 Pro....I can't use WIFI 6 AX mode because I have to disable it now because Google Home speakers don't support AX.....crazy

If the 5GHz signal is below -75dBm, 5GHz (AX or not) will perform worse than 2.4GHz (because 2.4GHz travels through objects and goes farther, which makes it stronger by around 10dBM on top of 5GHz strength), so why would you wish to use AX at below -75dBm? Think about PHY before you think about protocol. If PHY is undersized, you are done regardless of the protocol.

I don't move my PC around so its always got a good signal and doesn't drop that low

If run a speed test on 2.4 compare to 5, 5 wins hands down all the time and constant because it doesn't roam around the room/s

5GHz is not always faster than 2.4GHz. If 5GHz was always faster than 2.4GHz we would not need 2.4 GHz. 5GHz is faster than 2.4GHz only when 5GHz is stronger than ~-75dBm, at which point 2.4GHz would still be ~-65dBm and would easily be faster than 5GHz.

If you use smart connect correctly, your PC will always stay on 5GHz, at all locations where 5GHz is actually faster than 2.4GHz. My laptop doesn't go to 2.4GHz unless I am deep in my backyard somewhere (where 2.4GHz is actually faster than 5GHz by a considerable margin), and auto-switches to 5GHz when I come back in, because 5GHz will be faster there.

Backyard is the main reason I enabled smart connect. Because in my backyard, my laptop would start buffering youtube videos even when connected to 5GHz at all times. So, I was always manually switching. But then I explored smartconnect and tuned it for about a week, and been working like a charm ever since. No buffering anywhere.

I'm very new to this but I was curious if anyone had any suggestions as to 386.1 beta and the AX86U. I've searched this thread but didn't find anything concerning my question.

I installed 386.1 hoping it would address the bufferbloat issue the AX86U seems to have. But after installing I didn't notice any improvement at all. I'm very happy with my speeds and my ping is decent but the bufferbloat is still consistently not great.

Would anyone have any suggestions on how to reduce bufferbloat in relation to 386.1? Are there some settings I'm not adjusting? As far as QoS is concerned, I've attached an image showing what I have setup if that helps.
