Hello,

I'm very new to this but I was curious if anyone had any suggestions as to 386.1 beta and the AX86U. I've searched this thread but didn't find anything concerning my question.

I installed 386.1 hoping it would address the bufferbloat issue the AX86U seems to have. But after installing I didn't notice any improvement at all. I'm very happy with my speeds and my ping is decent but the bufferbloat is still consistently not great.

Would anyone have any suggestions on how to reduce bufferbloat in relation to 386.1? Are there some settings I'm not adjusting? As far as QoS is concerned, I've attached an image showing what I have setup if that helps.

Thanks for your time and your help.
And many thanks to Eric Sauvageau for the development.

Asus wont address Bufferbloat which is a shame

Ack! I had no idea. Thanks for the heads-up.

Asus wont address Bufferbloat which is a shame

Yeah. I've heard this. I kind of wish I'd never heard of bufferbloat. Ignorance can be bliss.

Merlin 386.1 beta 3 + adaptive Qos + FlexQos, bufferbloat fixed for me!:p

I looked up FlexQos and for me it looks a bit confusing as to the installation. I'm kind of dense when it comes to this sort of thing. Also, can FlexQos work through a Mac?

Finally, thanks for the responses! I appreciate it.

There’s not much point trying QoS on the AX86U until Beta 4 is released, since the current AX86U Beta 3 build has issues with QoS, per the second post in this thread. FlexQoS can be installed via the built-in amtm command line utility over an ssh connection to the router. But that is off-topic for this thread.

Hi,
I have a new asus RT-AX56U, Merlin 386.1 beta 3.
I don't see the NAT acceleration value, see printscreen View attachment 29127.
Should it be so? Thank you

This is normal. Hardware acceleration isn't user-configurable on newer models.

JFFS is ON or OFF via a checkbox and APPLY (SAVE) (different page than reset page)
Don't know what you mean by nuke off. It's always there just on or off and sometimes it needs to be cleared due to firmware rearrangement.

You should clear JFFS by checking the box right below the Factory Reset check box and make sure you hit APPLY at the bottom of page or it does not take hold.

Factory Reset is different from WPS Reset. Be sure you are clear on the difference.
I am aware of the difference, just that doing factory reset didn't do it for me unless there are leftovers from the earlier configuration when the AC68u was my primary router before I replaced it with my AX88 and kept the AC68u in my storeroom for the past year. As a part of my house has awfully poor reception, I was thinking of using it with Aimesh and a ethernet backhaul since I have a CAT6 cable wired there from my LAN equipment (AX88, Switch etc).

No, just perform a factory reset and allow it to reboot and stabilise for some minutes. Newer models need less time, but my RT-AC68U needed noticeably longer. Then go to your main router and try to add it in the AiMesh menus.

Don't do any configuration on the RT-AC68U.
That's what I did.. still no go after I waited an hour. I am tempted to get another unit of AX88 and just sell off the AC68u if I still can't get this going in the next couple of days.

Not sure what problems you are facing, SmartConnect has been tremendous for me. It did take a bit for me to tune it, but has been stable for over a year now.

I tuned smart connect to stay on 5GHz till signal drops below -75dBm, and go back to 5GHz when 2.4GHz is stronger than -55dBm. Keep it simple and it will work well for you.

My settings for smart connect are as below:

Does smartconnect play well with Aimesh?

Good question. I haven't tried AiMesh, but I expect it to work just as well. To what I understand, in a mesh the decision of '2.4 vs 5' will happen on the AP that you are connected to, while 'roam or not roam to next AP' decision will be made by the device set. So, if you tune it well, I don't see a reason why it wouldn't work. It will just be another decision along with AP Roam. But then again, I can't say for sure as I haven't tried it.

Did a git pull and a new build. The AX88U WAN connection is very slow. 1gig connection.
