My Range Extender (D-LinkDAP-1620) shows up with different names:-
- on "System Log - Wireless Log" it shows literally as "<not found>"
- on "network map - clients - view list" it shows as "DAP-1620" (the name I assigned in DHCP reservation)

Why doesn't it use the DHCP name in both places, just like other devices, f.ex. Android devices or my Wireless Printer ?

This is by design. The Wireless Log uses the hostname, while the networkmap can contain any description you might have manually entered (which might not be a valid hostname).

Traffic Analyzer - Statistic ... odd behavior

When I navigate into Traffic Analyser-Statistic, it shows "by Daily" and "All Client". If I change to "by Weekly" or anything it changes to show "All Apps". After that, I can only select specific applications or "All Apps", but I can not get back to "All Clients" or any specific client.

This behavior changed a few releases ago, perhaps 380.59. Before, there was no "All Apps", only "All Clients " or specific client.

The wording is also very confusing.
"By Daily" shows traffic per hour during one day. Should say "on Date"
"By Weekly" shows traffic per hour during one week. Should say "on Week"

Is there a tool that can export the whole trffic database, and analyse usage patterns?

Traffic Analyzer is closed source, and outside of my control.

So, why does hostname "andoid-yadda-yadda-." show up by my assigned DHCP name in both places? It's certainly not a big problem, but the recent discussion of "*" reminded me of this. I agree that hostname is important.

Maybe we should see both the hostname and the DHCP assigned nickname in both places? How do I see original hostname of a cabled device?

The hostname shown is whatever is used on the network. The info is retrieved directly from dnsmasq's lease database if I remember correctly.

Just to further explain the difference in behaviour: everything under System Log shows "technical" data. I prefer the data on these pages to reflect technical information rather than user-defined "friendlier" labels.

I thought about displaying both (i.e. extending the MAC field to show the same data shown, for example, on the DHCP configuration page), but decided the amount of info would overload the layout, and the presence of two different names for a given device might be confusing. Having the wireless log extended to two lines per device was already a compromise I had to make in order to be able to fit IPv6 information in there (something I considered important).

The networkmap queries multiple sources of info, and will use a "priority" order to determine which to show. User-entered labels will have priority over network hostnames, for instance.

Beta Firmware check worked fine on FireFix for RedHat Linux.
I think it is nice to get notice, when there is a new Release. :)

But the beta-check seems a bit unnecessary, especially when I usually used SourceForge and get update in 1-2 minutes. Today the firmware check sent me to MediaFire, which took 14 minutes to download. I don't think I will use the beta-check again...

It seems to be a regional thing, as Mediafire downloads are very fast for me here in Canada. I suspect their CDN (if they do have one) might not fully cover some regions of the world.

I was tempted to shift to SF.net as the primary download site, however there are a few things I'm not 100% satisfied with them, such as how they will display a specific file and router model as the "latest version". I also like the fact that my Pro account on Mediafire allows users to download files with no wait time, and no ads being shown either. SF.net's web interface was never eaelly designed for software that might have multiple files available for each new "release". I might consider changing this for the automatic redirection however if too many users are having issues with Mediafire. The redirection is handled server-side, so I can easily switch it at any time (I built it this way so I could better deal with outages or change in hosting provider).

I could also design a landing page allowing you to chose between the two sites, but I'd rather not over-complexify things here. Over-engineering isn't always better than under-engineering. :)

I flashed my AC87R and looks good so far. One issue I still have from .63 is under IE when I go to the Health Scanner for my USB 3 attached drive, it runs the scan but doesn't post the results until I switch away from the scanner and come back. also the animation of the USB icon doesn't stop until I switch away. not a deal breaker at all. I will test the UI under Firefox and see what happens there.
edit: just tested under Firefox and the same behavior exists there. One additional UI issue under Firefox, I had walked away with the UI open. when I came back it looked as if it was still logged in and it shouldn't have been considering how long I was away. first thing I clicked on, Username popped up in the middle of the screen, no dialog box. typed it in and the password popped up below and then logged me back in. strange.

No sf is insecure as crap

Can you elaborate?

The past issue of bundling adware is a non-issue for me, since the firmware doesn't contain any executable installer anyway. Those also happened under the previous owners (SF.net was sold since then AFAIK).

Ac-3200 running beta 1, I only get the yellow exclamation stating low NVRAM, I don't see the alert saying there is a new version available; I assume the messages should stack?

Could the nvram low message be set to be dismissed due to the inherent low nvram on the ac-3200?

All you need to do is click the "Apps" button and then click "Router" and it will switch over.

The notification only appear for non-beta releases.

No, because your router is definitely at risk of crashing, or having configuration changes fail to apply if you are low on available nvram. The fact that it's more common on the RT-AC3200 doesn't change that.

If you've had your router for a while, it might be a good idea to do a factory default reset, and reconfigure it. That will get rid of some old, no longer in use, nvram settings, such as the OpenVPN key/certs (they were moved to jffs a few months ago).

They've had repos modified/hacked before and no ssl. But that might be fixed then.

I do like media fire tho. Btw Github has releases now which are like downloads.

I know I've called asus incompetent before but I'll say it again. After minimal settings my ac3200 has 59344 / 65536 bytes used, incompetent

I reverted the backported changes to httpd (such as the new brute-force protection mechanism and stricter referrer control), and only kept the XSS/CSS protection done at the HTTP headers level. I'd say that's good enough for now.
@RMerlin (or anyone :)) I didn't want to create a thread to ask a simple question, so I am asking that here: Is there a way to get to the source IP of the attackers that trigger the SSHBFP rule? I tried grepping through the firewall log, but cannot find a foolproof way to isolate the brute force attackers.

Any idea how to do it?

Don't post in random thread, especially in a beta feedback thread that has strictly nothing to do with your post.

Locking this thread.
