Same here, this version is by far the best firmware for this router to-date (for me anyway). I even got courageous enough to set some QOS settings as I'm set to start streaming college football over the weekend. So far so good.

Once I get the slow down's I just do a router reboot and it's back to normal.

But 5GHZ is completely stable (as far as disconnects go) which already makes me happy. I've put the R7000 back in the closet for now.

...2 major problems still exist in my oppinion:
1. After appx 44h 5Ghz is slowing down
2. It's draining a lot of battery on Android devices...

Agreed, still having to do a reboot once a day is a pain. And fortunately the devices I use most are Apple devices and don't see this problem too much, although I did notice my One Plus One drains much faster. That's a huge issue if you use an Android device as your daily driver.

So since yesterday I started having the usual 5Ghz problems where everything slows down. After disconnect and reconnect everything works again for a short while.
Example of simple but annoying things:
- Playing Dungeon Hunter 5 on my phone often won't connect to the server
- Facebook won't load comments or photos

A reboot doesn't really seem to make any difference. It only works for a short while, pretty much the same effect as disconnecting and reconnecting the device, except doing the device is a lot quicker.

Weird that initially everything was working great after flashing the firmware, but now after a while of using it, nothing helps to fix it. I've noticed this with the other firmware a too.

I find it amazing what we will put up with on a top-end router. I NEVER rebooted my old (ISP supplied!) Netgear router. I also had my 2 AC87Us, running 4950, up for 100 days with no slowdowns or other issues. I'm now on 378.55 (Merlin) and no problems in a couple of weeks; we will see. I don't consider having to periodically reboot (especially daily) an acceptable situation.

I know with Merlin you can schedule the reboot, eg, for the middle of the night, but I have tasks such as backups running at any time and don't want my router messing them up.

I completely understand the frustration that people feel regarding the AC87x platform. It appears that the "Wave 2" technology is a bust, at least for now. So, I picked up a RT-AC3200 from NewEgg as an open box special. Getting it up and running was easy, as always with the setup wizard, even though I prefer entering my WAN settings manually.

Well, that was about all I could get that monstrosity to do. First, 5GHz performance was not as good as my AC87R, not even close with either SSID. I had all kinds of trouble getting all of my media bridges to connect to it. Four did connect with some "prodding" but the fifth would not connect to the AC3200 no matter what I tried.

For the record, that media bridge is a TrendNET TEW-680MB. If anyone got theirs to connect to the AC3200 then I would sure like to hear about it. Especially any specifics as I tried everything I could think of (which, as usual, isn't very much).

Oh, I had to re-install my AC87R the very first day I tried to see if the AC3200 was "ready for primetime". Well, it clearly is not, at least AFAICT. I know others have had the opposite experience so maybe there is a very good reason that this particular unit was listed as an "open box special" by NewEgg.

What I did not clearly articulate is my frustration with the utter lack of 4x4 clients in the US. I am sorry, even if the second generation Wave 2 routers are a smash hit, and I do not see any stampedes for them here locally, it is the lack of clients that is the death-knell of "Wave 2" in general.
