Hello,
am planing to get BQ16 Pro(3 pack), and local bestbuy is out of stock right now.

in the mean time if anyone can clear my doubts, i have been using Merlin firmware with my AC5300 as AP mode with pfsense.
i want to leave pfsense and go with just BQ16, i know i can do wireguardVPN and ad-block out of the box with stock firmware.

  • how can i do local lan redirection to nginx proxy manager for internal domains?
  • can i use self cert with internal domain?
thanks

I'm a bit confused with wireless backhaul.

My previous setup was :
- AXE16000 as the main routeur
- XT12 as an AI Mesh satellite with 6Ghz backhaul

I have just upgraded the main routeur to the BE98.
Can I expect a faster wireless backhaul if I upgrade the XT12 satellite to a BQ16?

Thanks

They offer free (fast) shipping. Still trying to find someone to split as I just want one...

I picked up the 3 pack from Best Buy. Been running it for about two days so far. Updated to the latest firmware. My gt98 pro and rt96u together seem to be performing better so far. Utilizing Ethernet backhaul.

What do you use as primary router, the BQ16 Pro or GT-BE98 Pro?

For now I’m using the BQ16 Pros only.
Ah. I reread your post and think you meant the BE98 Pro and RT-BE96U perform better than the 3 pack?

I must say the latest BE98 Pro firmware did wonders for my AiMesh as it seems WiFi Agile MultiBand is actually working. My RP-AX58 and RP-AX56 actually have clients connected whereas before they would be 90% of the time devoid of clients.

Ultimately if I get one I'll try to replace my RT-AC68U as I think the BQ16 Pro would fit nicely on a window sill (Velcro'd down).

Yeah, sorry for the confusion.

I agree the latest firmware helped a ton. Still having a few issues myself, but I wanted to see if the bq16 pros would be better. Dong sure had good things to say about them.

Like I said, though, they don’t seem to work as well as the gt-be98 pro.

I disagree. I think they look better than the XT12/ET12, my only concern is for mesh nodes, they seem to be very bulky (being wide enough to have a row of 5 Ethernet ports). While OK for a primary router, it makes placement of the second node more difficult.

My personal favorite design still remains the Lyra Trio.

Yeah... I... Disagree...

They kinda remind me on my wifes accessories...

I'm honestly more practical, don't really care at all what they look like. (I'd prefer external antennae). The shape allows me to replace certain models depending on where I placed them. This design would fit nicely above the entry of my parents' house, where an RT-AC68U currently sits. I couldn't possibly mount a "spider" design there, without some kind of eye sore mounting on the wall above an otherwise unadulterated doorway.

I have wired backhaul so thank you very much for sharing @Jadehsn . Do you think you'll be returning the BQ16 Pro 3 pack then?

I know what you mean, and that is part of the reason I tried out the bq16 pros. My wife isn’t too big of a fan of the spider look.

I am leaning towards it at this point. They are pricey, but my wife may end up winning out on this…
