right? Jack's one prolific mo...uh, person lately with all these script babies he's made and updates he fires off. someone call 9-1-1 because he's on Fiya, yo!

connmon and ntpmerlin could be somehow combined, no? both display jitter...
The jitter in ntpmerlin is the jitter in connection to the ntp servers, rather than internet/ping jitter which is what connmon does

Wait until you see the next 2 scripts I've got lined up. @L&LD is aware of one, and the other involves a little-known ad-blocking script by @thelonelycoder ...

I would think the combination of connmon and spdMerlin would be a better “Internet” status/health/performance check.
ntpMerlin (and it’s jitter) are more focused on real-time network time/services.

Speaking of network monitoring, is anyone using Nagios on their home network? I have compiled a working version of the NRPE plugin that runs on Asuswrt-Merlin.
I personally use Netdata on the router, configured to stream to a central node running on an Ubuntu VM. I just set up Grafana/InfluxDB in Docker on that VM, which opens a wealth of possibilities

When we have even laptop equivalent hardware to go inside our routers, I would agree with a connmon + spdMerlin merge. :)

Right now, that will not work for anyone with less than a top router (CPU + RAM) and no one with Gbps service. :(

Yes, unfortunately I have read the issues folks are having with large pipes and the older routers...
As Jack pointed out, one issue might be the fact the speedtest application is Python based...
I see a speedtest app that is written in C++ on github. I might try to port it to Asuswrt-Merlin. Most of the tools (I.e. cmake) are available in Entware.
In looking over the code it might need a few tweaks to be somewhat compatible with Jacks spdMerlin software.

If you get an alternative testing tool working, then please post on spdMerlin and I can integrate it as required

Thanks, if I get it running, you will be the first to know ;-)

Jack Yaz, is there a particular reason that you made this? ...not that there ever needs to be a reason to do something :)

The reason I ask is that I'm having an issue where AsusMerlin shows there is a connection problem and yet the WAN still has an IP. I suspect an ISP issue and trying to figure out a way to find out more info before I call my ISP. I usually just disable and re-enable the internet connection and then all is working again. Usually gets the same WAN IP address too.

In any case, it looks like connmon is just the thing! Thanks!

Honestly, I like graphs and stats, and there was an element of "because I can" involved too

I'mma poke around on yer github, likely to no avail, but I'll keep my big yap shut if I trip over somethin I have no business trippin over...THUMP!

(whispering) I found it yesterday....

Jack,

This is what I meant about the graphs in connmon not auto-sizing ...

Or it that "works as expected" for rddtool?

Looking for ways to supplement the income to get the wife a ticket to MCM Comic Con :p (she loves Misha Collins and he's a guest)

(not to mention moving costs due to landlord selling the place I'm renting :( )
Bro... sigh... overdue donation coming this evening.

Btw, ironic how https://www.mcmcomiccon.com
is currently on one of my blacklists.

[edit: $$ sent, enjoy!]
