RMerlin,
OK thanks for the info...I just wish the home hub router/modem I'm forced to use didn't have so many options removed. If it had "bridged mode", (I think that's what it's called)...I'd be OK with the default asusmerlin ddns....
:)

Killer,
I had never heard of "openvpn-event script" but then I googled openvpn-event and asus merlin....I found this:

https://www.snbforums.com/threads/openvpn-event-script-working.10961/

I only skim read it but it seems to be that you put a script call openvpn-event in the script directory alongside the others, it will be run when the server starts or stops (you might have to put something in the server config to cause this to happen):

In the thread RMerlin said this:

You are probably misunderstanding what this script is for.
For the OpenVPN server: the script gets executed when the server is started or stopped. This is used for applying custom firewall rules. I just tested it myself here and this is working fine. Don't forget to restart the OpenVPN server after creating the script.
For the OpenVPN client: the script gets executed when the client on the router connects to a remote server.
This script is NOT for events when a remote client connects to your router.

Have a look at the thread and try googling....should help you out.

:)

thanks for reply...im at work now, so cant test, but the next steps to confirm:

1. create "openvpn-event" file add the "up.sh" line there place it into "/jffs/scripts/" folder
2. Need to modify the "up.sh" script for the asuscomm.com as the one in example is for DynDNS, can u please send me how?

btw I cant belive that I'm the 1st one first this issue, searched through forum and didn't find solution just link for those pages with scripts ive already mention above :(

Thanks

Killer,
I've helped you as much as I easily can. You are going beyond what I have experience of. I'm not sure how threads are meant to work but perhaps you should start a thread of your own about your problem? I'm happy either way but you might get more help with a fresh thread? This thread was originally about double NAT ddns....
:)

im double nat + vpn[emoji3] so i dont think new thread is really needed

anyway u get which ip for the DDNS host name? if ur behind Provider NAT u dont have public ip (same as me) so for public ip and open port do u use vpn as me?

Killer,
I have a public IP provided by my ISP. My asus router is behind a modem/router provided by the ISP, which has very little configurability. This is why I want to use the asus but of course the asus is double NAT behind the first router. The asus is running a VPN server and I use the ddns url to connect remote VPN clients (e.g. on my phone) to the LAN at home....I effectively only use the ISP modem/router as a modem...nothing is connected via its free LAN ports and my true LAN starts with my asus router.
So the DDNS host name gives me the (dynamic) public IP given to me by the ISP. If I understand you, you want the DDNS to give you the IP given to you by a remote VPN server.....
:)

aah so ur running VPN SERVER and then ur connecting to your LOCAL LAN from eg.mobile via VPN client

i need the VPN IP to be shared into host.asuscomm.com (ddns service) so i can have static host.asuscomm.com address for my services running on my server like ftp, owncloud etc...

Hello,
I wish to wake on lan and it works. Except in case of change of public IP, in this case, the update is not done and the WOW does not work anymore. I have to restart the router.
In the end, I have the same problem as leechpool: double NAT. So I'm looking at his scripts.
But at the URL: https://github.com/RMerl/asuswrt-merlin/wiki/DDNS-Sample-Scripts#asus, Rmerlin points out 2 things:
1) to use "External": but a warning message (in the UI web) warns that this can block remote services and therefore the WOW no longer works for me. (I use the port transfer).
2) that ez-ipupdate has been replaced by In-a-Dyn. But Leechpool uses ez-ipupdate in his scripts.

So Leechpool, does it always work with your scripts or have you changed since?
Could you please tell me if needed, how to do the modification with In-a-Dyn in the scripts? I'm not strong enough in bash.
