Diversion Diversion - the Router Ad-Blocker

Does anyone know how to get Diversion to work while also running a VPN client on the router?
Doing so requires changing the DNS 1 and 2 servers in LAN > DHCP Server which seems to make Diversion not apply anymore.

Scroll down to DNS Behavior. Xentrk is one of the script developers here on SNB, I think the expert on using DNS with VPN so that scripts like Diversion work properly.

It's possible with DNS filter. Set the global filter to go somewhere else upstream, like 9.9.9.9 and set each client on the network in the exceptions at the bottom. You'd be doing the opposite of what the FAQ says:

You cannot block YouTube ads with a DNS sinkhole:

Just to be clear, back in the days my blocking list went from standard to custom (custom+) when I installed skynet. Since this has been discontinued, I can safely re-select a predefined list in Diversion?

Just the plus part is removed, the blocking list type can be changed at any time and did not affect the plus hosts that were added separately.

Sorry, I'm just a little confused on the naming because I initially installed diversion with the 'standard' list, then it went to 'custom+' after installing skynet and now after the update it says 'custom'.

You have other options in desktop browsers. But as for smart TVs/Chromecast and mobile, you are going to see YouTube Ads without a content blocker. Depending on what browser you use, there are some must-have desktop extensions.
