Thanks for the info. 1-2 dBm may very well be within measurement noise. Are you still able to connect OK?
Please keep us posted.
Yep, connection is not a problem. The proof will be in the proverbial pudding when I surf in bed or watch something on my Roku stick.

I appreciate all your hard work on this, John. I don't express it enough. Your work has extended the useful life of my RT-N66U substantially.

Further testing seems indicate that those measurements are within the noise. I lay in bed and surfed for a bit and then watched Sling TV for about 20 minutes (the sacrifices I must make) and everything seemed fine. More testing is required, but so far so good.

Updated my 68U and 66U to 29A7
Uptime on the 68 was 57 days 5 hours 15 minutes 3 seconds on 28E2 :)

For some reason, 29a7 wireless on the 68 is not working well. Wired was fine.
On 2 Nexus 2 cell phones, Google play wouldn't work right. On one phone, I just get a spinning circle. On the other, it was really slow and the full page would not load fully.
Seemed ok with Chome. My son played a game on an ipad that requires internet. Seemed fine.
I switch to 28L8 and Google play is super fast. I will stick with that for now.

I've uploaded some Alpha builds for the AC66U, N66U and AC68U. For the AC66U and N66U, this integrates the KRACK fix and new wireless drivers. Unlike the Merlin builds, integrating this turned out to be a real challenge. Turns out the new Broadcom nas prebuilt module had other dependencies on code updates that I had to track down and port....I won't say how long it took me to figure it out :)

I haven't done any performance/range measurements on the new MIPS drivers, only verified I could connect on the N66, so feedback would be welcome. I managed to keep the 'tweaks' that were applied to the older drivers, so it should be interesting.

I've also included an AC68U build for testing since some of the dependancies intersect with the ARM code as well. Good news, is that it should be easier now to intergrate the ARM KRACK fix when it becomes available.

Have fun and please let me know how it goes!

Hi John9527,

Just created an account to be able to report.
I'm flashing my AC66 with this release and test it for a few days.
Thanks a lot for the effort.

Best Regards.

Updated AC68P from 28E8 to 29A7

Several hours later noticed VOIP service (OOMA) unable to connect to internet

Nothing unusual in logs

Rebooted router same result

Reloaded 28E8 and VOIP service restored

Nothing in V29 would affect Ooma (I also run Ooma)

I only have one device with Google Play....an off-brand tablet. Double checked, and was working fine. If anything, was running a bit quicker than I remembered (I had 9 apps that auto updated)

Hot off the presses! Alpha updated to V29A8 which includes the KRACK fix for the AC68 series.
Driver version wl0: Nov 29 2017 14:54:27 version 6.37.14.126 (r561982)

If anyone is using the AC68 as a Repeater/Media Bridge, would appreciate it if they could give this code a try.

It also includes backported fixes for 3 Samba CVEs (thanks Merlin)

That leaves only the AC56U...Asus activity on that has been rather quiet, so we'll need to wait and see. A reminder that the N16 will not receive the KRACK fix.

Google play hosed again. Gmail won't work. You Tube not working. Hangouts too, not working. Confirmed on 2 Google Nexus', and one LG Stylo 2. Android 6 and 7.12
Google play works on Nvidia Sheild. Youtube also works.

Edit: Back to 28L8 and all works fast.

Don't know what to say.....I can't recreate any problem. Watched a couple of Youtube videos, casted them to my Chromecast, checked my Gmail account.....no problem.

What about just browsing to a web site? What is the status on the wireless log page for the device?

Maybe a stupid question but hoping I can get a simple response. I already have john's build on my 68u. To move up in firmware can this be handled by the router firmware via administration tab? Or do I need to use the restore tool each time?
Many thanks

One thing to check when having issues with Google is the DNS configuration. For instance, Google likes to hardcode their own DNS into mobile apps. Make sure you're not doing anything to interfere with that.

Might also be a good idea to do a complete power cycle of the router, just in case the driver update requires the chip to be reset. Turn the router off for 5-10 secs, then turn it back on.

It's a real head-scratcher. I did not check the wireless log. All other internet apps work. Very weird. I'm already back on 28.

Once you are on the fork, you can use the admin tab gui to go up or down to another fork release or to Merlin or Asus firmware.

You only need to use the restoration tool when moving from Merlin/Asus to the fork.

I use AdFreeTime DNS in the router.
