This link is going to the A7 build for some reason, so if you need the A9 build make sure you click the test builds tab and get the correct version and not do what I just did and download the same version again and uploaded to router not paying attention. I blame my tired eyes lol Thanks again John.
Alpha updated to V29A9 which addresses the problem with CTF reported by @phx28777 @Lotta Cox @tyspeed42

Although the problem was only reported on the AC68, a corresponding commit was also present on the MIPS builds and I suspect the problem was lurking there as well. If you are running the Alpha on the AC66 or N66, you may want to update to the A9 build to pick up this change.

Thanks again to everyone for the feedback.

Thanks for all of your hard work John....very much appreciated! I'm going to update to your latest alpha this evening on my ac68u.

Installed V29A9 on my RT-N66U.

Tested CTF as well. (Usually disabled because of iptraffic.)
No problems so far. :)

Will test this on my 68U tomorrow morning.

I also want to say thanks for your hard work and time invested to keep this build continually updated, it is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hello all,

I have a question that might be a bit off topic, but I am not sure where else to post.
I have an ASUS RT-N66u and have tried several builds over the years.
The Merlin builds works the best for me, thanks John.

Since I moved to a larger house now I want to increase the output power of my rt-n66u. I am aware that there is still a 500mW version around on the Internet
Is it this fork ?

Just to be sure, can someone point me to the right latest download for the 500mW version for my router?

Thanks in advance!

Rob

Thanks for the offer to help out. I'd just like someone with a stable setup to verify it keeps working, so nothing special to test.

Please hold off until the next update. I want to understand this bug a bit more.

Updated AC68U to V29A9 last evening. Happy to report it is working very well for me while streaming Netflix or Plex meida. Thanks John!

Using my N66R as an Access Point, with V29A9.
So far so good using wired, 2.4Ghz, and 5Ghz.
Metageek inSSIDer signal looks about the same as well.

Updated earlier this morning on AC-68U V3. Flawless as usual. No immediate issues. CTF On (was on already) and all seems to be well. Thanks as always for these great updates!

Updated my AC68U Rev B with V29A9, which is used as my primary wireless router.
Working well so far using wired, 2.4Ghz, 5Ghz, and OpenVPN.

Heads up on OpenSSL 1.0.2n release:
OpenSSL 1.0.2n including a fix for a currently undisclosed security vulnerability is planned to be released on 7th December 2017 between approximately 1300-1700 UTC:

https://mta.openssl.org/pipermail/openssl-announce/2017-December/000108.html

I think some larger core projects have got an advanced disclosure and based on what I have read the issue of concern is a Data Confidentiality/Integrity Vulnerability with moderate and in some cases high severity impact.

That announcement states that the highest security risk is "moderate".

It does. I also saw https://nodejs.org/en/blog/vulnerability/december-2017-security-releases/ which says their stuff will be impacted at high sev because of the openssl issue.

We don't have node in asuswrt, but not sure what specifics caused them to be high.

We'll see in two days.

Asuswrt's relation to OpenSSL is mostly related to OpenVPN and the webui (for those that use https), so it's not always as impacted as an Internet-facing service such as a web server, especially if people follow the advice I've been repeating forever to not expose their webui to the Internet. :)

Good eye.....only affects ARM routers and will be fixed for next release.
I saw in the changelog that this has been fixed in 28E9:
Code:
374.43_28E9j9527 (22-November-2017) ARM SDK
[...]
- FIXED: sysinfo: fix clock freq tools display for ARM routers
I would like to install this 28E9 release on my AC68U (cannot use an alpha release on this network), but where can I download it?

Is there a practical difference in ping and signal strength on the N66U? Is it enough to justify moving from Merlin's mainline? I know some routers have such bloated firmware that ping time to the router and client can be atrocious, which isn't the case for me @ >1ms from upstairs, but it's not worse on this fork is it? Also is the signal difference practical? Other than that, is there any compelling reason to switch from Merlin's? I'm thinking of it if the N66U will be EOL soon with official firmware.

I haven't checked Merlin's builds in a long time. I know that when Asus switched SDKs, range on my N66U plummeted significantly. That's when I started using John's fork.
