Hi

The GT-AC5300 seems like the perfect VPN router for throughput given its 1.8ghz Quadcore. As far as I can see the only Quadcore Asus Router and the fastest single core clock speed also.

As of yet I can only see Merlin for the RT-AC5300

Any eta on support of the GT-AC5300 As I am sure this would do 100mb through easily if all cores utilised.

Thanks

Thanks for the link

I did do a search, I just didn't find that link. I was looking for specific threads for the GT-ac5300

That router can indeed achieve a bit over 200 Mbps, but because of hardware crypto acceleration, not because it's quad core - OpenVPN is single threaded.

Ahh I see, thats good to know!

I did not know that OpenVPN had a single thread limitation.

So I for example have an AC88U, What would the theoretical vpn limit of this be with the 1.4Ghz processor? does this have hardware crypto acceleration?

AC88U should be able to reach around 70 Mbps.

Those numbers are all using AES-128-CBC, with a SHA1 digest.

It has no hardware crypto acceleration - only the new HND platform does (the GT-AC5300 and the RT-AC86U).

So Is it safe to say the RT-AC5300 is the fastest asus / vpn we can get a hold off? I'm on a 50 mbps connection and can hit about 43 mbps on VPN. Without VPN on the same speedtest servers, I max out at 30 mbps.

Can I install the router applet on this router.

What applet?

I hope your firmware is stable?

It's still in development, it hasn't even reached the beta stage yet.

Is it possible to increase the tx values for performance boost ?

Power output cannot be changed due to local regulations, and also because modern wifi technology uses variable dynamic output control. Increasing output power is useless anyway, your laptop/smartphone are already limited by their own lower power output.

So is the ASUS ROG Rapture GT-AC5300 supported with Merlin firmware? If so which do I install? The RT version?

They need to fix multiple console support in the stock firmware, the port conflict issue, where one console gets open nat and the other gets moderate.

I really hope Merlin will change his mind on supporting the GT-AC5300. That is THE router to use...

How many times does Merlin have to say , "No, I can't do this because the required code is closed source?"

I don't think he will support the AX version either.
