Waiting for ExpertWiFi model with RGB and 12 antennas for Professional Gamers with related ExpertEthernet cables. All in white, of course.

Marketing and Asus makes all high-end models Gaming marketed to squeeze even more money. Don’t forget ROG Ethernet cables for your new ROG router.

Speaking from my own user experience and being a big gamer...in the past, I've tried to use openwrt/tomato/dd-wrt with the latest routers that support these firmwares and SQM (cakes-qos/simple cake etc...) and I've always ended it lagging while gaming. I've tried the different endless customization options provided with no luck.

In the end its all business and all companies have to market their own devices as they wish.

However, ever since I switched to Asus routers that have supported FreshQoS (now FlexQoS). My gaming devices have never lagged. This is also including some wireless gaming devices which it's never recommended to do while gaming!

To each its own but I'm only speaking from real life experiences and Asus has come thru in my own environment without the need to run extra wires around the house.

FlexQoS reached the end of the road. The developer moved to different platform. Not guaranteed to work in 3006 firmware.

Thanks for the heads up.

Flex is still working for now and I'll consider what's next after the fw is upgraded and is no longer working. But as of today....all is running smoothly!!!

Looking at your signature you are running 3004 firmware. This thread is for 3006 firmware. And FlexQoS used to run on non-Gaming marketed routers equally well. So back to the original @Mathieu question - is there any advantage in purchasing a Gaming marketed router?

I am...but the ROG marketing hasn't changed from 3004 to 3006.

Yes, I wonder when the firmware from merlin will arrive for the rt-be92u and it will be sometime next year and I am a little interested in starting the sweep file and possibly if you can fix it to 6GHz for the latest update from asus it was worse than before from their firmware and what I can see on my router it is good reception and sometimes disappears on 6GHz even if you are in the same place it is not ok and wifi 6GHz can disappear in my router for several minutes before it is activated in the router again , have tried different channels on 6GHz and the same thing no matter what channel you choose there, am not interested in 2.4G&5GHz but more 6GHz because few people use it on my farm, what I can use on my wifi is 20/40/80/ 160 but not 320 mhz and becomes 20 mhz instead of 320 mhz and then 160 mhz works instead on 6GHz

Sorry... Had to...

I'm really glad I picked up that set of ROG shielded fiber cables to hook up my PC to the 1GB port on the router! A little pricey, but well worth it. Of course I didn't expect that I would also need the ROG-branded fiber->ethernet transceivers either... definitely sticker shock, but that 1GB seems super fast now!

You got very lucky your equipment was compatible because ROG fiber uses RGB laser.
That's exactly why its shielded! SSH is blazingly fast now. I might go for a dual fiber nic next and make this 1GB port scream!

At this time It doesn`t. 3006 is largely 3004 but with SDN, which is highly complex and is spread throughout the whole code base. Everything has to be adapted to deal with that, not just guest networks. This leads to new issues being introduced in 3006. For instance, DoT is currently broken in 3006 if you have disabled SDN instances, because the SDN handling code will kill running stubby instances if an SDN that would also rely on that same stubby instance is disabled. This is something that I had to fix myself recently, I sent the fix upstream last week.

People who want 3006 are people who never used 3006. A lot of Wifi 7 users are unhappy at these issues that they are experiencing.

3004 is in a fairly good place at this time, it's best that devices still on 388 stays un 388 until the 3006 issues can be resolved. And while I may fix the occasional 3006 issue (like DoT), I intend to let Asus engineers take care of most of the other issues, because the whole SDN code is too complicated for me to be able to fully grasp.
I'll go by what you say 3006 for the AX1100 pro is not ready for prme time . I trust your judgment on this .My router is stable and running well no complaints .
Besides there are only so many hours in a day , you have a life enjoy it while you can ,rather you release a few stable FW THAN A LOT OF BUGGY CRAP

Which is the preferred version

In current situation with Asuswrt features under malware attack, rushed firmware updates, 3006 state in general and Asus not providing regularly GPL for RMerlin to work with... in my opinion the preferred version is something similar to my signature and discussed in this thread.

Which is the preferred version, 86 or 88? And why?
Similar questions have been asked before, but it will depend more on your needs and what you're looking for:
