It does look feature rich, but not for me. I like the fact it allows you to store your logs in different regions, Switzerland for example.

Abstaining from voting.

I find it concerning in general that they would be storing any of my logs at all -Not that big box dns providers aren't guilty of doing the same thing, we just understand it is a general practice of dns service providers. If we really wanted our online activities to be finely woven into Switzerland servers, then it might be more prudent to live there (or geographically close to there).Otherwise vpns may be a better choice. While it is an enticing concept they have, it doesn't have enough bells and whistles for all the potential greef one may experience just to get it setup.

It's entirely optional. You turn it on or off in the NextDNS settings.
While we know that is a feature of theirs, my point was more to illustrate the silliness of it in comparison to say for example using a VPN that might afford the customer more protection, better and easier to implement services oppose to a script/service that may only work half the time and is not friendly with other developers scripts sharing dnsmasq.postconf.

Sorry, you've lost me (but then I haven't really been following this thread). For some people having logging is a desirable feature. IIRC it was one of OpenDNS's selling points.

Sorry, let me contract alittle bit here. I guess I find it silly to pay to log dns when most of your dns providers already do that for free and without your consent. The same is true in regards to the ones that don't log, they are typically free.

For me I can see the query log of dns requests on adguard home, on a pi, stored locally. It's a great tool for seeing what is going on over the network and what the devices are trying to connect to.

Yes on nextdns the feature is optional, I just meant that If I were to use nextdns I would prefer to store them in Switzerland (or next the EU option) over the USA option as I believe privacy law is greater in the EU; It's nice to have the option.

Besides this is just one feature it has that I noticed. It appears to have a lot of features that could be a useful solution for some people.

I have stopped using NextDNS on router. Some blocked queries by Diversion managed to be listed in their logs and blocked again, only some tho not most. Maybe local/service cookies? It's good for you're on the go. But I trust and more comfortable with Diversion + Quad9 to do the job on the router locally. Logging is also good for troubleshooting, but with NextDNS, better have it off imo

I can live with a smaller blocklist in order to fit either Diversion or AGH inside my router's memory.

But the main thing that has kept me with NextDNS are family profiles on mobile devices. That is, going outside the home. I also traveled to another country recently and NextDNS had a couple servers nearby where I was staying, so that was really helpful.

I suppose I could have still connected back to my home router thousands of miles away, but I still liked the abundance of available servers.
